President Jair Bolsonaro has not waivered on this.
He has not been a late conversion.
He has been preaching the advantages of armed citizens for about 30 years, or so I have read.
50% of the new Brazilian legislature are first termers. They are ready to make serious changes in the law. Many of them have had to attempt to negotiate the current system of insane firearms regulations.
They know it is insane.

I’d expect that the initial result will be an increase in the murder rate, possibly sharp...followed by a precipitous drop - though the poverty of many in Brazil may delay that drop for a while.
