Well said.
My ex-wife was Korean, and her mother came to visit back in the mid 90s.
We checked into her legally immigrating here, instead of just visiting on a visa, and it was going to take longer than she expected to live (10 years or more).
After a few weeks here, with her watching the news and her daughter explaining things to her, she decided that all her lifetime friends were back in Korea, and it'd cost too much to even consider becoming a citizen of the United States.
Also, that was a time when legal immigration was 'frozen' for a few years.
