A Disunited States seems to be bent on doing that towards one another. Two self interest groups. Two singing the nod-and-wink song, separately.

Unless the DSA looks back to God and all the things (not just a selected set) that He declares are righteousness, man’s laws aren’t going to matter a trifle.

If you’re goal is to survive then stealing from me will prove very counterproductive.... just sayin’

It is in Texas. One of the few states that allow the use of deadly force to protect property.

In neighboring NYC they just started a “fair fare” program whereby gibsmedats will pay reduced fares/half price for mass transit; the recipients are angry that it only applies to weekly and monthly passes (not daily). When discussing the budget troubles, the agency described the millions they lost to turnstyle jumpers/fare-beaters and the city didn’t want to have that discussion.

Normals are the only ones expected to pay for everything and obey laws, and they’re paying for everybody else as well as being victimized by our unassimilated criminal class. When there are no more normals, Detroitification is complete - and even the criminal class flees (no more hosts for the parasites).

Some laws force some to break other laws. Example, laws against hitchhiking or “soliciting” a ride out of town or panhandling. How do you get a quick meal until you can get out of town without stealing something, or remove your burden on a community and leave if it is illegal to do so without a vehicle? Steal one? Sometimes these are catch 22 and seriously counter productive for the community it’s self.

And I don’t care what folks say about there being all kinds of help available, this is NOT true anymore, Society has become far to uncaring and selfish to even slow down, let alone help a little. Until you have actually been there like I have, you have no clue how hard it really is even if you have all the right values and are absolutely willing to work for it.

The right ones are for sure but there are better ways with soup kitchens, food stamps, and day jobs. Could even learn a new trade (gasp) and get off the street as a homeless person.

Some publication from an unidentified city and state promotes a pseudo liberal e extolling feel good emotional socialist sob sister so called liberal philosophical defense of excusing and attacking social conditions as the cause to excuse they who choose to resort to illegal activity. Rather than hold the individual violator responsible for their decision to do so resulting in judges who slap the wrists of shooters, home invaders, Feel sorry for folks living there

Broken Windows theory argues that everyone is responsible for their own behavior and that, if we permit low-level crimes, it will lead to a general breakdown in law and order.

A bigger factor behind what NYC discovered when they adopted "broken windows" policing, is that criminals commit lots of little crimes as well as big crimes. When they adopted a policy of booking people for little crimes, they found that lots of them had outstanding warrants for bigger offenses.

Have you ever been there? Have you ever gone without food for 3 or 4 days in a row? I have. And as industrious and hard working I have always been, in reality it is not quite that easy for this to work out as we would like.

It depends solely on where you are and what resources are available locally. These are not always available and easy to get. “One size fits all” ideology doesn’t always apply, geographics and demographics dictate how easy this truly is. Then laws such as hitchhiking being illegal can prevent you from getting to these resources from the get go.

Reality is... These resources are just are not “everywhere” like we would think. And then there are minimal requirements to even take advantage of some of these resources, such as proof of a physical address, which you do not have. There is a whole list of challenges no one ever considers.

You can’t even sign up with most temp services without a physical address and proof of “reliable transportation”. The homeless can’t even get a P.O. box to receive mail without proof of a physical address. In many states you can’t even get a food card without having proof of a physical address. Most businesses won’t even give you any temp work because they are worried about the liability of you getting injured on their property. And the list goes on and on.

It is easy to say and claim... But until you have actually been there, you have no idea how hard it truly can be. You really can get stuck in a rut that is next to impossible to get out of.

Have you ever been there?

Yes but I had a way back to a normal life so after a week of it I gave up and went home (17 yo). Later I managed to find work just in the nick of time before I was homeless so close but no cigar. The thing is I had to make my luck change by really hustling for work and not being picky.

I do get your point though and agree. Once you're there living under a bridge or whatever; it becomes much harder to pull yourself up by the bootstraps. Not impossible but really difficult. I think the goal would be to try and work enough to get a good running van to not only get to work in but to sleep in until the money is saved up to rent a room or even find someone who will let you park your van in their yard or property and allow you to use their address as a hard address. Baby steps until you can walk with full strides.

Easy; no. Doable; yes. The real trick is to hustle and work hard to prevent it from getting that far instead of giving up.

Ayn Rand
“Did you really think we want those laws observed?” said Dr. Ferris. “We want them to be broken. You’d better get it straight that it’s not a bunch of boy scouts you’re up against... We’re after power and we mean it... There’s no way to rule innocent men. The only power any government has is the power to crack down on criminals. Well, when there aren’t enough criminals one makes them. One declares so many things to be a crime that it becomes impossible for men to live without breaking laws. Who wants a nation of law-abiding citizens? What’s there in that for anyone? But just pass the kind of laws that can neither be observed nor enforced or objectively interpreted – and you create a nation of law-breakers – and then you cash in on guilt. Now that’s the system, Mr. Reardon, that’s the game, and once you understand it, you’ll be much easier to deal with.”

I was forced to do it twice in my life. Had to come from the gutter up and start all over again. You cannot get out of that rut without someone willing to be charitable and help because all other means are just not obtainable until you get above the completely “homeless” stage to “I have an address” stage. Even if it is just allowing you to use their address as a base camp to get a car and insurance and mail.

Problem is... There are now very few folks out there who would “inconvenience” their own agenda and cramp their lifestyle to do this. And even then they would have to provide documentation that you are paying rent or one of the utility bills. Could this now violate their own rental contract and get them booted out themselves?

I guess the point I am trying to make is that there are a whole lot of requirements and roadblocks that hinder even those who try their hardest to fix their own situations. Once you become homeless everything works against you because you ARE homeless. Everything works backwards from what it should.

Like getting a P.O. box to do basic business like getting a car or a job. You can’t get a P.O. box without proving you own property, pay rent, or utilities somewhere. If you have a physical address why would you need a P.O. box then? Makes no sense at all and it puts the homeless between a rock and a hard place. We need to fix these type of obstructions first. It didn’t used to be this way.

Everything is designed to obstruct rather than boost your situation in hopes you will move along and go try somewhere else. You are just supposed to disappear as if there was no such thing as homelessness. In the meantime hunger will make you do just about anything to get a meal, including break laws which you would normally never do. Basic primal hunger is a very powerful force to be reckoned with.

Thing is... There is no reason for homelessness at all in our society, and it should not be made so hard to get out of it for those who truly want to. And I can tell you that the better part of the truly homeless are indeed actually trying to but keep getting knocked back down day after day just because they “cease to exist” in the minds of a community who does everything they can to try and make them “go somewhere else” to try and better themselves.

At some point no matter where you go it is the same.

Can’t disagree with anything you said here but I still say there’s no reason to hurt someone even if you are ‘that hungry’. There’s always another way.

On the corner with a cardboard sign if absolutely necessary.

Oh I agree, It should NEVER be an excuse to do others harm. Just needs to be pointed out why and that we create our own environment for it to happen more often than it should. We need to make it easier for folks to get back on their feet, but we don’t... We keep making it harder.

I’m not even going to go into how food and financial assistance is purposely designed to lock folks in and make sure they are perpetually dependent on these. I’ll leave that for another future thread. :)
