That thing would be a real PITA in a rural setting.

Sébastien Roblin holds a master’s degree in conflict resolution from Georgetown University and served as a university instructor for the Peace Corps in China. He has also worked in education, editing, and refugee resettlement in France and the United States.

The author sounds like some John Kerry approved Euro-weenie.

Sensors will continually improve, as will AI capabilities for target detection and recognition. Meanwhile, the tank is light enough to actually get to where it’s needed over Third World roads and bridges.

The first UGVs were developed a century ago during World War I. By the 1930s the Soviet Union deployed two battalions of remote-controlled “Teletanks” armed with flamethrowers and demolition charges which saw action during the 1939-1940 invasion of Finland.

Yet this one doesn't work?

“He concluded it would be ten to fifteen more years before UGVs were ready for such complex tasks.”

Misinformation?

Arguably most problematic of all, however, was the discovery that the remote-control system, which officially had a range of 1.8 miles, only proved effective up to 300 to 400 meters in a lightly urbanized environment. Over such short distances, the control vehicle is likely to become exposed to enemy fire.

Its just a video game for the controllers. This thing will never have the situational awareness needed to survive.

Even some manned vehicles dont.

No problem, just convert some A10s into UAVs.

Unsure about the Russkies, but around here it looks to be WAYMO, wheel to wheel with VW.

The hardpoints are ready for most systems.

VW has about a zillion diesel units in stock ready to ship.

No need for heavy armor, when you can swarm on the cheap.

World War III will be the equivalent of a large, expensive video game. The winner will be the producer of the last surviving unmanned tank.

Hi.

I wonder if it can be jammed or hacked...?

Not withstanding an A-10 in the AO.
