After enfranchising over a million ex-cons, I fear voters tossed FL into the likely rat column in 2020.
Another great choice and the first Jewish judge in 20 years. Great job, Ron.
It may be early, but he is showing promising signs that he may just be the best Govenor in America !
DeSantis has great potential. Do not underestimate his future political career. President DeSantis is not out of the realm.
DeSantis picks second jurist for FL Supremes.
What is the makeup now of the court, conservative vs liberal?
Three leftist judges were forced to retire on January 8.
Thus far, DeSantis has named two conservatives.
When DeSantis is done the new count will be 6 conservatives and 3 liberals.
DeSantis is replacing the corrupt Chiles liberal FLSCOTUS retirements.
And the only reason that Chiles’ was able to nominate the three who retired is that our favorite GOP Governor Jeb Bush allowed him to do it.
Thank y’all for some very good news. Hopefully DeSantis can get his people to clean up the voting mess before the next election.
Lib heads will be exploding! :)
I know 6 ex cons who got their rights back, 1 Dem, 2 Rep and 3 NPA. The Dem is a moderate, the others are small government libertarians. Don’t lump all ex cons in with Dems....
WRONG! That is thoroughly debatable, and has been debated heavily on this very forum for several years. DON'T try to blow smoke up my arse.
Big Win!
The day before DeSantis’s inauguration, it was 4 liberals (one of them an appointee by RINO Crist) and 3 conservatives. The day that DeSantis was inaugurated also was the day that the terms of three old liberal justices expired, so the FL Supreme Court became 3 conservatives and 1 liberal. DeSantis already has appointed conservatives to fill two of the three vacancies, so the court now has 5 conservatives and 1 liberal, and before the end of the month DeSantis will fill the third vacancy and make it 6 conservatives and 1 liberal.
This is why the FL gubernatorial election was the most important race in the entire 2018 election cycle.
I took a quick look at the groups that pushed the excon voting rights amendment. They were all “grassroots.” None of them struck me as the Federalist Society sort of backers.
Pretty much ignored by Miami media local TV. They carried it VERY briefly then went on to the story about some guy in Iowa whose remarks were deemed racist.
Miami media tried to shut down the DeSantis story.
You should ride your unicorn down to the Supreme Court and make those arguments.
But right now precedent is on my side.
Get it?
Thanks for the details. Now, if they could just arrange for a jail cell for Snipes...
