I think we should do a trial run with an industry that is less sensitive than health care. Not that movies aren't important, mind you ... but let's try single payer for entertainment. Movies should be a basic human right. People should be able to go to any theater they want for free, and get free concessions as well. Government can pay the bills. Government would have to set a pay scale, of course, but that would not be hard. Government isn't good about basing compensation on intangibles, but that's an irrational way to set salaries anyhow. Objective, quantifiable metrics are better -- things like educational credentials and the number of people supervised. An actor with a college degree, for example, should be paid around the GS 9 level, prorated for time actually spent on set. (Most actors are part timers.) Those who dropped out of school early to start acting -- the Barbara Streisand set -- would probably be wage grade employees. People with supervisory responsibilities -- film directors and theater managers, for example -- could be paid more, maybe up to a GS 13 or 15 level. And movies would then be free for all.

Since the great majority of people in the movie business are left of center, I'm sure they would welcome the opportunity to participate in this single payer proof of concept demonstration. Once it is shown that single payer slashes costs and improves access with no loss of quality and choice, it can then be gradually extended to other industries. The lawyers can go next. Access to quality legal services is a basic human right, and people with money shouldn't be able to buy services that aren't available to the rest of us. Each of us should be able to go to any lawyer we want, any time we want, for free. Government can set a reasonable rate -- probably a 9, 11, 13 progression -- and we could then simply abolish the private purchase of legal services, which can be ridiculously expensive.

‘Not sure what value the health insurance companies are providing.’

the problem with healthcare is the exorbitant cost of it, which the additional layer of bureaucracies of the insurance industry has escalated...

Let’s not consider non-natural born citizens. The last one was disastrous enough.

Even Conservative radio talk show host—Howie Carr—doesn't have a handle on NBC.

Last time around with Obama all the talk show hosts were told if they touched it they would lose their career.
That’s why Beck and Rush joined the anti-Constitution side.

If you’re over 70, I urge you to avoid Hospiece at all cost, if you desire to live. Avoid living in instatutional facilities as well as long as you possibly can.
