Beautiful orchestration and a brilliant use of recitative and arioso, two of the most important building blocks of opera and song writing.

"MacArthur Park" was Jimmy Webb's declaration of independence from Cynthia (or Sylvia) -- I forget her name -- who tormented him for years.

He ended up marrying a teenager whom he met when she was only 12, and the marriage lasted for decades.

The Jimmy Webb Songbook was one of my very first efforts as a Canteen DJ 8 years ago.

Eight years ago!
Has it really been that long?
I remember that like it was yesterday!

You always do an excellent job! No worries about being here. You’re always here!

I know you’ll really enjoy the speed of the new one. And not having to re-boot all the time is a real bonus! It was past time for one!

I started in 2011 when I was living on the Georgia coast and was vice president of the local Tea Party group.

Well, I like the songs you post here (especially those from the old songwriters that you feature a lot, like Harold Arlen).

Were you in the Philly area when they had a Sunday night show on WPEN 950 AM, called "Street of Dreams", with the DJ, the late Bob Roth?   They played a lot of old standards, and he was a laid-back, grandfatherly sort of guy, who was also a wealth of information about that "Big Band" era of music.

I found a youtube music thread called "Sunday Night Big Band Classics", from someone else who also must have liked that same show, as they included a bunch of the kind of songs he played, including his show theme song, "Street of Dreams", as well as a short clip of actual voice samples from some of Bob Roth's old shows from the distant past there.

That set of songs and the Bob Roth clip can be accessed here, if you're ever interested in giving them a listen.

I left the Philadelphia area in 1971 when I went in the Army and never went back except to attend funerals.
