Corruption corrupts absolutely. Top universities are only top in corruption, not in actual mental power.

This means the status enjoyed by top universities is only real in the minds of the brainwashed.

They lost actual status in failing to have the knowledge, the understanding and the wisdom to refuse political correctness. In failing to uphold freedom of speech they have lowered themselves several levels from their previous status as thought leaders.

So the top universities are not only foolish, they’re also corrupt.

America is very different.

Rome was unable to access its greatest mental resource—the wisdom of the common man—in order to continue its greatness.

Our political system allows such access.

I have been doing engineering and automation for 30 years. I have learned thar the fancier the university makes the more useless engineer. As far as basic controls people to do most tasks that do not require top high level development with strong science and math skills, I will take electricians with aptitude and interest all day every day over supposed college educated.

Unfortunately. Yes, WHO you know (or rather who knows you) is just as important as WHAT you know.

It is just an unfortunate fact of life.

You can dismiss it if you like, but you would be ignoring good old common sense.

And it’s well known that many jobs are filled through personal connections, as opposed to applying for a job at the personnel department of a company in response to a job listing.

Kids will both graduate in the near future with zero college loan debt. Started a plan when they were babies. Very proud of both of them.

Job listings are largely for show in many industries.

My parents never gave any of us brothers a dime for college. I worked pumping gas and working as a journeyman diesel mechanic for the first 2 years of CC. By the time i went to college at Cal Poly SLO majoring in comp sci, I was able to pay for my 1st 2 years. Worked summers in a sawmill for year 3 and graduated w zero debt. Never knew spring break or traveled abroad those years.

I retired at 60 and became a stock investor.

Outstanding post! I’ve been saying for years that we’ve been needing education tailored to the abilities of the students rather than trying to force the students into a preconceived mold of expectation.

My high school, Tennessee Preparatory School, back in the 1970’s (the state’s orphanage) had shop classes of all types, drivers ed and practical economic class, social workers the kids met with every week and a staff who loved their work and the kids. Teachers with a mercenary attitude were sent packing quickly - ours took the necessity of being the occasional wet shoulder sincerely.

Almost none of us have been “high achievers” as the scholarship opportunities then were few then but we have a very low ratio of criminals, addicts and suicides. The good citizens and neighbors you want next door, knowing they WILL watch your place when you’re gone.

Bull

Harriet was savaged cause dumbass Bush thought it would be cute

Nobody had any clue her ideology to speak of except Bush liked her

Well?

That didn’t impress me much

I’m could care less about college anymore

Except for jobs that need the training it gives like MD or JD. Or Architecture engineering etc

It’s a fine place to pay thru the nose to have your kids taught by asshats who hate everything we here at Free Republic stand for

Used to be going to Ivy League meant you were indeed smart and tried hard

Now who knows

You’re the right color or sex or religion or your dad gave cash or you’re legacy

It’s a club.

Hard science degrees are not the same as the arts. An engineering degree from Stanford will get you in a top company for your first job. After 3 years no one even asks what college you attended. I work side by side with a Standford grad.
