It’s gonna be tough to have an EU army if Germany doesn’t support it.
IF you believe in the concept of “The End of History” That WW II is the last big war—and no more wars will be fought because of the UN and the fall of the USSR—Then it makes perfect sense. Why fund an army, air force and navy when they will never be used? The money could be spent on Vote getting social programs! Bringing in cheap labor from the Middle East, etc... If WW II was the last big war—and the USA will protect them from all bad guys—why spend a single Euro? BUT, What if America is distracted by say—a war with China? A Civil War at home, a fight in South America—and the Russians invade? What then?

We should bring our troops home and hand the Germans a Russian dictionary as we leave.
And France and Germany say they will build a new EU army. Yeah, right.
NATO is useless and serves no American strategic purpose.

Time to bail on NATO. They don’t need our protection and they don’t deserve it.
Well, the ones that DO deserve our protection, like Poland and Hungary, we can’t protect.
Anyway, time to take our stuff and go home.
Because, in the event of conflict, we could not support our troops in Poland. They would have threats to both the East (Russia) and West (the EU).
The Poles deserve our support, but we just can’t do it.

Been there done that before. Just say no to the Teutons would be my thought on that were I in the EU.
Slap a 50% surcharge or tariff on BMWs and Mercedes. That should get their attention.

Last Century we had two world wars. The second followed the first by about twenty years. Since the second we have had relative peace for 70-80 years.
None of the smaller or mid-sized skirmishes expanded out to a full fledged world war.
It’s easy to take a look at our troops and the cost of keeping them in Europe. It’s not such an easy task to extrapolate the human and monetary savings of the peace they helped to survive.
The problem with our troops in Germany and South Korea, is that the efforts they represent have been so successful, that folks make the mistake of thinking they aren’t needed.
Yes, it costs money to keep troops around the world.
It costs a whole hell of a lot more to fight world wars.
For generations our people haven’t had to deal with sugar, rubber, petrol, and other rationing. While we do still have a military, it’s all voluntary now.
We protect the world, but that’s just a fallacy. What we’re doing is protecting our nation from involvement in another world war where 20-50 million people die, and it’s another thirty years before the world recovers.
We’re getting off cheap.
As for Merkel and Germany, we’re going to be angry with them at times. Merkel is a traitor to her own nation. We can’t expect her to respect our president.
Hell, she doesn’t even respect herself. She is one heavily damaged sub-human being.

It’s not a rebuke against Trump it’s a rebuke against NATO.
