Trump has said plenty of things about NATO, and most folks realize it was intended to get NATO member nations to fork over their fair share. It should be noted, that contributions have in fact increased. Merkel is an idiot. You can’t fix stupid.
As for Brazil, it has been decidedly anti-U.S. for some time. Under it’s new leadership there has been a thaw. That really is good. Brazil is a large nation and has big influence on dynamics in South America.
China is making inroads in South America. It think it’s reasoned to develop closer relations to Brazil and other nations down there.
People say a lot of things. Most international figures seemed to be vehemently anti-Trump at first. Now I think he has garnered a level of appreciation and support that many didn’t see coming.
We can’t simply dictate to Europe. We can explain what we see as dangers and hope they wise up.
Look, we can’t even keep our kids in line. Sometimes you have to have patience and hope that people wise up.
We shouldn’t just lop off ties that bind, even if we have differences.
