One somehow suspects that ...
1. If Mueller did not know from the outset (and not in on the Big Con), he would not have been selected, and ...
2. If Mueller did not know from the outset, then he likely would have been earnestly willing to do a good and fair job, and thus he would have been shocked and felt let down (and maybe even "set up"), and he would likely have taken very close looks at Hillary and some FBI peeps, among others, and...
3. He would have hired very different peeps to assist in the digging.

Why?...Howie Carr opined on his show today that the whole idea was to get beyond the '18 elections and do as much damage to the Republicans as possible - lots of the smug suburbanites in wealthy neighborhoods who might normally vote Republican but are too precious and proper to vote in support of some nasty man who says rude things about people and maybe colluded with the Russians crossed over and helped the 'rats take the House and hold more Senate seats than they should have - mission accomplished, and now the witch hunt can be ended - makes sense to me......

Everyone, Mueller included, knew the "Russia collusion" thing was a complete joke. He probably figured he could find something, anything on Trump given the unlimited resources he had.
As it turns out, Trump is probably the most honest, law-abiding person to work in government in the last 50 years.
