Life expectancy for a 77 year old man is actually 9.89 years. Life expectancy at birth for a man in the U.S. is 76.15, so by your reckoning, he’d dead. His wife is 69. If the pension is taken as joint survivor, paying the full amount as long as either one is alive, you must consider that her life expectancy is 17.2 years.
The correct way to calculate the value of a life annuity is the sum of the present value of a series of payments (present value means discounted by compound interest) times the probability that the payment will be made. Even for a joint annuity it’s a fairly easy calculation if you can decide what interest rate to use and what annuity table.
The following table gives survival rates in 2015 in the U.S. Predictions about life expectancy are based on the assumption that morality rates in 2015 hold for the future.
Based on this table, the $650k value of a $73k annuity implies a 2.6% interest rate for a single life annuity, and 9.83% for a joint life. Neither seems realistic.

Clint taught those of us who are 77........ Think 90
At 86 Clint Eastwood produced a movie, from his office on the studio lot that had been his for 30+ years
I worked hard and saved for forty years. If you work hard and save for forty years, you can be a millionaire, too.

Soc.Sec. life expectancy table .
I think it’s bad to think about such things.
A palmist who has worked for the NYPD said on the radio he strongly condemns palm readers who tell a person when they will probably die. Some start to create the death expectations in their own health and others become obsessed with it and so on.
For the over 119 year old crowd in that table do they say “what time is it now?”
By the way, that palmist consults with NYPD detectives and advises them when a print shows a sociopath,a psychopath, etc. and how they will probably act soon (give in to police to give up a hostage or not, hole up for months). Since the days of the Sherlock Holmes stories beliefs that “bad people” could be predicted as becoming future criminals based on looks of facial features, shape of skull and their hands, this sound like police would rather listen to this guy and catch the killer than look modern.
Aw,com’on..Ol’ Harry’s doings for himself and progeny make Sanders look like an amateur....
Can I borrow $15.48 until payday?
They run for office so they can keep the campaign money after they lose.
Nobody lives to 119.
The U S Government Social Security link you sent us to shows age 119 at the highest age level. I should fully trust the Government in all ways and at all times , shouldn’t I./s
This is especially true if Bernie is the nominee.
A psychic made this prediction two nights ago on Coast to Coast AM:
All the existing nominee contenders will fail and leave the two combatants to be Donald J. Trump versus Bernie Sanders.
Trump will defeat Sanders in the most vicious, dog eat dog campaign in history with no holds barred but Trump victorious.
Which is better, the US age prediction table or a radio interview with a psychic? Good for laughs. I pray Trump does defeat the bad guy, of course.
At birth, a boy has a life expectancy of 73.15 years, a girl 80.97. At age 77 a man has a life expectancy of 9.89 years, a woman 11.51.
Expected age at death increases every year you’re alive, remaining life expectancy decreases.
Nobody lives to 119.
Seems like Sanders book(which I wonder if anyone has read)
“Our Revolution: A Future to Believe In” was only slightly misnamed. Should have been “My Revolution: A Failure to Believe In”. Just from what I know of him there couldn’t have been anything worthwhile in that book, though admittedly I have not read it.
You say 650K is a horrible retirement investment??? Boy, I wish I had half of that, even tho I am a little older than Bernie. I know a lot of people who wish they had that, or in some cases...any at all.
No, I was referring to anyone that would give BS $650,000 cash. I was thinking he would get the money, and then die within a couple of years and those who purchased his retirement would lose money. THAT kind of bad investment.
I have been informed that I am wrong, because it will pay out whether he lives or dies. To his spouse or his children. Nice deal our servants get.
Bingo!
Thanks.
Problem now is, if any socialist (”Dem”) gets into power with House and Senate, the new mantra for them will be “for fairness, how many old people can our system afford to keep alive?”
Tables will show more health care visits (we know it’s true today) for old than young. A lot of Soc.Sec. and other benefits paid if an old person lives 10 years than if they lived one year. Note: First Soc. Security under New Deal was based upon “there was no reason to believe anyone should expect to live beyond age 65.”
Cold calculations will mean “our oldster euthanasia centers shouldn’t be attacked any more than our abortion centers—it’s all for the good of the communist future we are working toward.”
Let Bernie discuss those details in a boomer area. “Hey, why aren’t you goofballs applauding me ?” And exactly how much sympathy for the elderly will AOC have? Zero.
You and I should tell the Soc. Sec. bureaucrats in your link to drop the age bracket off the table.
Frank Sinatra toast "May you live to 101 and the last voice you hear be mine."
Sure, 20% interest per day, and you have to sign over the title to your car.
Life expectancy in 1935 (the year the SS act was passed) was 61 years, the age at which one drew full benefits was 65.
Today life expectancy is 79 years, and one is eligible for full benefits at 66.
A much greater fraction are living to be 66 today than lived to 61 in 1935, and life expectancy at 66 is more than 18 years, life expectancy at 61 in 1935 was about 10 years.
