And Adm Rogers
Could see this coming a mile away.

I saw this article earlier today and my first thought was about how “17 intelligence agencies” knew within days, without even examining the servers, that the DNC was hacked by Russians and that we needed a thorough counter-intelligence investigation of the GOP candidate... but here we have an entire city - cities, hopsitals, banks and others - all falling victim and where are the US intel agencies now?

Too busy covering their tracks, I could wryly say, over their seditious attempt to entrap and unseat the POTUS. But sarcasm is defeatist. This is a serious matter and I fear that the entire intelligence apparatus has been compromised in many ways: It seems likely that 1) the code was leaked from inside the agencies, 2) they don’t know who or haven’t public prosecuted the leakers, 3) they showed incredible hubris in believing in their omnipotence 4) they have for the most part been shown to be tools for political partisanship, 5) they are in disarray internally for fear of being exposed for their seditious schemes... and many more possibilities.

The bottom line is that this is disgraceful. Remember when Sony was hacked allegedly by NK, it took ages for the Federal Government to respond. There were other hacks. Now this. They are slow to respond to real threats while they invent false flags against the elected POTUS or jump to give unfounded support to political narratives. Perhaps I am wrong to lump the NSA in for I know that Adm. Mike Rogers tried to stop the seditious campaign against Trump. But they are starting to appear to be more of a liability than an asset. I hope that is not true, and I’m sure there is a lot we don’t see or know about... but of the information that has come to light they appear to be petty and partisan and derelict.

Then again, perhaps this is part of an attempt to smear the NSA because of what Adm. Rogers did - which would be the worst option of all next to straight treason if the intel agencies were warring with each other.

I guess this is a reason to read the posts before commenting... or “great minds” because we all had the same thought. Which is pretty depressing to think we have come to be so suspicious of the agencies and people who we rely on and are sworn to defend us and the Constitution.

I imagine it keeps you employed :-)
Like the rumor that the anti-virus companies are behind the original virus codes. Spread the disease and then sell the cure.

What can we come to expect from government though? In this case I am speaking specifically of the Baltimore city government. Do they hire the best tech people in the region to design and implement their systems? I highly doubt it. They probably rely on in-house techs for most of projects; with government pay rank, and with political interference in the hiring process. If so, another example of (you name it) penny wise pound foolishness, government incompetence, government and political hubris... and more. They are experts at nothing but try to control everything.

And why? It makes no logical sense, it is just their nature to expand power, control, allocate resources as they wish and with the usual graft and favoritism, to justify a need to ask for more money from the citizens. It’s tiresome, and so obvious, and dreadful that more people don’t see it for what it is.

Sorry for the rant...

Actually the opposite, BION.

There was no way I was going to be allowed to continue so I resigned.

When I was a Big 6 auditor, I would have written them up on many things.

First time in my I/T career I was cursed at for trying to protect the company’s business and assets.

You wouldn’t think in this day and age an I/T shop could be so far out of date..... but yes it happened.

The software system was the biggest mess I’ve ever seen.

No way I could fix it. I hoped to organize it and move the company forward (especially the local operation which was the biggest mess).

Nope, not allowed to do that.

I thought this vulnerability was patched?

Per wiki:

On Tuesday, March 14, 2017, Microsoft issued security bulletin MS17-010, which detailed the flaw and announced that patches had been released for all Windows versions that were currently supported at that time, these being Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8.1, Windows 10, Windows Server 2008, Windows Server 2012, and Windows Server 2016.

Many Windows users had not installed the patches when, two months later on May 12, 2017, the WannaCry ransomware attack used the EternalBlue vulnerability to spread itself. The next day, Microsoft released emergency security patches for the unsupported Windows XP, Windows 8, and Windows Server 2003.

I used to be a reasonably bit suspicious of ‘conspiracy’ theories.
Now, not so much.

Baltimore ..... I seem to recall a game 50 plus years ago with the Washington Senators. The Orioles won the division that year and the World Series. The next day was spent at the amusement park
