I agree - culture matters. I also believe that while a culture does change over time - which HAS occurred since our amalgamation of Europeans, i.e. Many Jewish families have Chinese food for dinner on Dec 25 and women actively participate in the workforce and we don't have slavery - that change should be a GRADUAL process.

The reason why this gradual/not knee-jerk approach is important, is that it lets the citizenry talk and debate and experience the pros and cons of changes. Usually, and perhaps because of our state/federal set-up, America got it right.. interracial marriage is not outlawed, people aren't jailed for bedroom activity they conduct in their own home, citizens still vociferously protect their guns and 1st and 4th Amendment guarantees, and people who legally immigrate to America are celebrated. Oh, and I can get Tandori chicken at Whole Foods or a Big Mac and fries at McDonalds. Even when we got it wrong, like with Prohibition, there was a long drawn-out process and once we came to our senses, we fixed it.

The "shock therapy" approach to culture change was seen with abortion...we were still sorting it out at the state level when we got the SHOCK at the federal level. We are paying the price today for that shock. Indeed, I forget the case but I remember Scalia, in reply during oral arguments to an attorney who was whining about the "slow" pace of change being caused by some Constitutional protection, said something like "Change in Government isn't supposed for be efficient. This is supposed to be long process so things can be worked out."

An equally visible manifestation of the bad that comes from swift cultural hostile takeover that the statists/one-worlders advocate, is being played out in Europe. Centuries if not millenia of culture is being quashed not by migrants per se, but by politicians and a willing populace that enthusiastically trade away their culture for that of others in the name of "tolerance." My guess is the butchering we've seen on the streets of London and the sexual assaults about which we've read in Sweden would NOT have happened or at least become commonplace if those migrants conducting those crimes were jailed or got their butts kicked in a-la "frontier justice."

Contrast that with immigrants coming to America in the 1920s and their penchant for arranged marriages or never dating outside of their tribe...society and culture rejected those things, and IN GENERAL people today marry people who they've dated and have kids named Prunella Wong or Antonio McCarthy or Bucky Goldstein...patient assimilation works.

There will always be Americans who want fast change...over time they tend to move (Loyalists moving to Canada) or become a disgruntled permanent minority (MSNBC, hard-core Dems, most of Manhattan). They key to our success is for those who love our culture to defend it, and to maintain the brakes and guard rails we've built (i.e. respect for the family unit, the Constitution, the electoral college, religious protections), to control against quick but far-reaching - and caustic - change.
