This is a pattern of demeaning Republican presidents that dates back at least to Reagan. It is NEVER the president himself making any decisions which the base wants, but rather some nebulous ‘controlling entity’, in this case Stephan Miller. Under Bush Jr. it was Karl Rove, or Cheney.
And there’s the implied challenge to the Republican president - PROVE that you are your own man, that you are not controlled by anyone, and, of course, the way to do that is to simply do what the left demands.

Someone said that would be considered a tax, and Congress never would approve it. But if they’re not legal, I’d think illegal status would override laws for Americans.
