South central KY. And my house is about ten years old, 1100sq ft. 40 x 60 barn, a couple of out buildings and 32 acres with a natural well and two streams.

teachers walked out a few moths ago and the district rolled and gave them extra pay and pension. This was an attempt to fund after the fact. money for pensions and extra salary does not show up in teaching kids.

Actually, it’s 22% from “illegal-headed households”. So some of them may technically be “legal”. As far as what they pay in taxes to support the schools? Nowhere near 22%, I can assure you. And with all the welfare, WIC, SNAP and other freebies they get, they are overall taking far more than anything they pay in. Additionally, these kids have a higher “cost” to the schools on average than students from legal households. These 22% likely account for about 30% of the budget due to learning disabilities, ESL classes, behavioral problems, drugs, gangs and more.

It requires 66% + 1 vote to pass. 54% isn't close.

No kidding. I own two houses in the Pocatello area. Annual property taxes run me about $2,700. I put away $225 per month in to a dedicated account to make the semi-annual property tax payments. That burden remains when I retire. I'm going to turn house #2 into a rental to provide the cash flow to keep the taxes paid.

“54% to 46% isn’t resounding.”

it IS pretty resounding given that 67% was needed for this particular tax to pass ...

I'm glad it got voted down. If people could see the amount of money LAUSD wastes, they'd explode. This Breakfast in the Classroom is a major scam. The food is pre-packaged crap loaded with preservatives, wrapped in plastic, saturated in grease. Half the kids won't touch it. A huge amount of it goes straight from the cafeteria to the garbage.

Then there's the books. The Williams Code (or law or whatever) mandates that every kid have a book for every class, so though we barely use the textbooks (because they are full of leftwing propaganda) the kids get new ones issued every year. They are "consumables" which mean soft cover and thrown away afterward. Hundreds and hundreds of books, barely touched, MUST be issued. Can't re-use the barely touched ones from last year, no, into the landfill with them, and the publisher gets to sell us another pallet of the same damn book. It's maddening.

Then there's the trainings they want to send us to. Almost all of them are pure crap, and give us advice that directly conflicts with what the last one said to do. But that, too, burns up money, so let's do it!

And the testing! Oh, the testing! Let's test them and test them again... someone's making money off all that testing, and let me tell you, they ALWAYS have enough money for testing. It's all bullcrap.

Actually 46% of voters said yes...54% said no...

I heard John and Ken on KFI...They played an interview clip from the teacher union president...He was unhappy that illegal aliens were not able to vote for this tax hike.

Here is some quotes from Mayor Garcetti:

“But when they say, what are they going to do to end homelessness, I say homelessness starts in a classroom, when a child facing...sorry,” said an emotional Garcetti as he paused. “When a child is in the foster care system, comes here and you have a parent in the form of a teacher and a counselor, an administrator. We complain that there’s too many people in prison, where does that begin. It begins when we fail a child in the classroom.”

https://abc7.com/education/lausd-has-no-regrets-over-failed-measure-ee-vows-to-fight-on/5333608/

Garcetti is suggesting that homeless problem may get worse because this tax increase did not pass.

Many voters, who supported Hillary and Newsom, did not show up for this election...
This tax increase may pass in November of 2020...A higher turnout...
