This site houses a ham repeater.

Gravity. The guy wires were cut. CCSO took one cut end with paint markings... beer cans were found at the scene.

The ham gear is usually privately owned or supported by a ham club. Fairly expensive. Unless the owner has deep pockets, expect that communications asset to go permanently out of service.

Deep pockets? No. They may get a temp crank-up tower up there pretty quickly.

They don’t want any added attention.

Is your friend named Johnny? I’ve got a friend who’s a ham and she’s involved in emergency communications with the SO and SAR.

She’s got a friend in Medford named Johnny who owns a bunch of repeaters.

No. This guy does the coast side, northern Cali to Washington, give or take. The site in question was all logging communications(except for the ham repeater), but that is a good portion of fire and emergency communications for the area. Apparently nothing quit working entirely except the receive antenna at the top of the tower. The area had been recently logged, so coverage will resume with a shorter tower.

You are much to kind; my hope is that they get caught in a fast moving brush fire and BURNED TO DEATH!
