Like Alaska, Congress could reduce the entire federal judiciary to John Roberts sitting at a card table with a candle.

The fact that Congress rolls over to every passing judicial whim is an outrage against We the People.

“Shows the value of a line item veto and a governor with a set....”

Which is why liberal legislators hate both.

This general concept should be replicated on a national level.
The judicial Power of the United States, shall be vested in one supreme Court, and in such inferior Courts as the Congress may from time to time ordain and establish. The Judges, both of the supreme and inferior Courts, shall hold their Offices during good Behavior, and shall, at stated Times, receive for their Services a Compensation which shall not be diminished during their Continuance in Office.
Surprised there isn’t a similar provision in the AK constitution . . .

States lining up: Arizona tells Nike to get lost. Alaska tells its judges to pay for abortions. Who will be next in line with this revival of common sense?

He vetoed funding for higher (so they call it) education as well. Sounds like a very good guy!

Money's tight in Alaska these days. The oil money isn't flowing like it used to.

There are no direct state taxes on the people at all. No sales, property or income taxes. The governor and the legislature are wrangling over taking half or more of the PFD (Permanent Fund Dividend) because the state government short of funds. Donleavy has vowed to pay out the full dividend to the people (Reported to be in the neighborhood of $3K this year) and make up the shortfall with spending cuts, some of which will be quite painful. For example, cuts to the Alaska Marine Highway System (The ferries).

Since a family of four is looking at a PFD check of $12000 with the full dividend, some low income families, heck a lot of not-so-low-income families, will be severely impacted.

re. receive for their Services a Compensation which shall not be diminished during their Continuance in Office.

He's cutting their budget. They'll no doubt receive their full salary even if they have to hold court in the dark.

Ingenious.

The liberal judges may just be stunned into unconsciousness, that their actions have consequences.

I would have preferred a Special Assessment on the Incomes of ALL Licensed “Officers of the Court” in the State, which would force the scumbag lawyers that bring these cases to pony up their own Cash for their Cause. But this is a Good Start!!

Financial equivalent of impeachment.

Depends on the size of their budget. :-(

Okay don’t stop their compensation but inform Roberts that from now on the Supreme Court will stay in session the full year and that they will pay out of their pockets the utility bill and other misc. expenses.
