Pirates receive a warm welcome from the Russians and a helping hand from Americans bearing gifts, and some Turkish civilians chip in for beer

“Best take care of her before she wears a special kind of “belt” into the House.” Damn! I never thought of that.

That was the FIRST thing I thought of when that piece of slime made it into Congress, thanks to the greedy Lutheran church charity that got paid the big bucks to import all the Somali garbage into Minnesota. Ditto her fella muzzlima Tlaib. They are in a perfect position to cause terrible harm to our country. They could wear suicide vests while sitting near important government people against their policies, they could let fellow terrorists into otherwise secure areas to plant bombs or devices to disseminate viruses or deadly chemicals. I'm sure they already share sensitive government information to our enemies. They are enemies within. I wouldn't put it past Keith Ellison to coordinate with them on that, nor that useful idiot tool AOC.

The Royal Navy (finally) squared off with the Iranian Navy, protecting a British tanker with a missile carrier and a hovering attack helicopter and daring the IRGS to attack.

The Iranians decided they’d made a mistake and retreated. No “Allahu Akbar! We keel you!!!” for them.

They can use this Shiite “We love death more than you love life!” bullcorn for just so long. Mullahs wanna go home at night, too.

The next U.S. response needs to be a drone that takes out 138 million bucks of Iranian military assets.

Bad idea. I don’t leave my unless I am armed. Bad advice for the Middle East.

Sure, just be a sitting duck. Might as well hang a “no gun zone” sign on the bow.

"They should haul 10 US representatives on each ship."

And make sure they are Democrats and RINOS.

Every tanker can have a coalition Naval escort through the straights.

Navies trump armed guards

Radar visibility depends on sea state and rain, among other variables. On smooth water a marine radar can pick up the wake of a small motor boat miles away. (I’ve seen it.) In a mild rain storm, with 15 kt wind it can be hard to see anything smaller than a few tons.

One thing about marine radar, it has different range scales. For harbor navigation, you would typically use a short range scale, which uses a very short pulse. The short pulse has better resolution, it shows more detail. The trade off is less energy in the pulse, it’s not as “bright”, but near in you don’t need much energy.

In high seas mode, long range, pulses are much longer, which means more energy on the target, but far less resolution. The receiver will get more energy back from the target, small boat, the Forrestal, whatever. The problem is that you get proportionately more return from the surface, more sea clutter. If the return from the sea clutter is comparable to the return from a small boat it becomes difficult to detect. The analogy is using your high beams in a snowstorm.

Simple, find some small country that needs money. Pay it to fly its flag on the ship and put its military on the ship. No private force involved.

If I had anything to do with any ship there, I would say “BITE ME.” and hire the baddest ass protection available.

Granted, if the pirates were to come at you like the KORCOMS went after the USS Pueblo...that would be a harder proposition.

But they won’t.

"...They should haul 10 DEMOCRAT US representatives on each ship..."

Use them as anti-boarding fenders.

Then taunt the pirates.

Indeed. You are exactly right on all. I just spared the details.

My point was, they don’t need eyes and ears just to know they’re screwed; that’s radar’s job.

Only guns and those who are prepared to kill can ensure safety of the ship and it’s cargo and crew

Fire hoses can certainly discourage small boats from approaching a large ship.

This is “leadership” by actuarial table.

The industry association is basically saying, “We can live with the expected terrorism losses. And what’s a dead crewman or two really cost?”
