I think the crux is that negative/punitive laws are being selectively applied only on citizens and the ILLEGAL ALIEN INVADERS are deliberately by the powers that be, not being held to live under those same laws.
Maybe DWI stop.
I think he may have gotten ahead of procedural standards with this perp. If he is impounding the vehicle, he is obviously going to transport the driver and a backup with transport vehicle should have been on-site. Perhaps the perp knew this was coming — stolen vehicle etc and as soon as he saw the officer on the radio, he knew he had to go for the rifle to get away.
Had a buddy that said, every time we approach a stopped vehicle we know that we are under a possible deadly threat in the next second if the driver knows something we don’t
Yes. But they didn’t say.
I hate articles from which you walk away with more questions than you had when you started reading.
Someone else asked that on another thread last night. If this guy was a biker as rumored, they are masters at fabricating hidden compartments and spare no efforts or cost to do it. They can almost hide an AR on a motorcycle without it being obvious.
One fatality too many.
Isn't that basically true *every* time a cop encounters the general public? That guy on the street corner might have just killed his girlfriend. Those guys at the mall in San Diego County might be wanted for a billion dollar drug ring.
Then he should of been cuffed.
A Felon in possession of a Rifle that is (Unconstitutionally) outlawed in CA.
Didn’t this guy know the Law?
If it was a DUI stop, the guy would have been Cuffed, sitting in the back of a Patrol Car.
No tag, registration, or insurance.
Had been involved in 2 hit and runs, a bank robbery, and some drug trafficking.
Owner had 3 DUIs and the truck was stolen.
But the smog emmision controls had been removed and that we just can’t have that in the state of California.
Hoping you know this is satire at its finest.
A convicted felon with a firearm in his vehicle that was being impounded by the CHP certainly gave the perpetrator plenty of motivation to act as he did. He obviously had no desire to go to prison again.
He didn't need to kill an Officer in order to get "suicide by cop".
Heh. It does speak to one thing I love about Kentucky: I have four cars. Three of them have the check engine light on. One just came on. The other two have been on for years. They all run just fine. We don’t have emissions testing here so I ignore the lights. :)
Something to be mentioned here CA actually has a host of statutes where if violated the vehicle is impounded but the driver is not being taken into custody/transported. In CA, smog violations, equipment violations and some registration/insurance violations are specifically “take vehicle, leave driver.” Not kidding.
Ummm, you might want to look into that. Check Engine lights are not just indicating emissions problems but can indicate problems like “hey, idiot, your engine is about to eat the cam” or “you are about to slam your valves into your pistons.”
At least get the codes - this is not like the 80s cars where the light indicated only potential emissions problems.
Cracker White. :0)
I agree, not “arrested” if there was no obvious cause, but temporarily “detained” in cuffs. Maybe their hands are legally tied with this option in Ca?
Penny? Is that you?
I know I worn them for decades
