We don’t really know yet, the communications aren’t very good at this point.

There have been reports of bodies all over..................just reports , so take it with a grain of salt................

“”Storm surge is basically a tsunami, but with heavy winds at the same time.””

Thanks for that...I remember in Katrina there were stories that some water damage wasn’t covered by insurance because it was too far inland and wasn’t caused by flooding but wind - which must have been “storm surge”... See even old folks like me can learn new things. I appreciate it.

Where do the large cruise ships go when they go to the Bahamas - what part? I didn’t hear a word about those. Maybe they were kept away?

Dear God it’s a miracle the death toll isn’t higher!

There might be a rather large gap between the reported death toll and the actual death toll.

Sure that wasn’t caused by Democrat policies?

Looks about right.

Seriously, that’s bad right there, prayers.

We took a cruise about 8 years ago, and the ship docked in Freeport and Nassau. The photo above appears to be the harbor at Freeport where we docked, although with the destruction it’s hard to tell. I’m sure that island has been wiped out, including the places we visited. The storm pretty much sat on it for a day or two.

It *does* look like most “shipping containers” (ostensibly used for housing or storage?) DO survive ... (though not all remained ‘bolted in place’).

It looks like the place was carpet bombed, but I wonder if carpet bombing would bring even half this devastation. My heart goes out to these people, they’ve lost everything.

Many put in at Nassau - large tourist area but on a smaller island somewhat south of where the storm hit worst - still probably major destruction - right across the small bridge out of Nassau on to Paradise Island is Atlantis, the major resort, and the Beach Club which was featured in one of the Bond movies, maybe Dr. No - hate to think of what they look like now........

Atlantis is still open, and somebody got in trouble for daring to advertise the fact....

Even well built wooden structures probably aren’t going to do well in sustained 180mph hammering and water pounding.
