"I have yet to meet an owner of an AR-15 who thinks it’s OK that we have these kind of mass killings in this country.”

Which says that these people aren't the problem. So, why ban their weapons?

Moron! Even in CA, CRand NY people are complying with msg bans an registration requirements only to the tune of about 3%

For that matter, when I lived in NJ and Florio banned “assault weapons” and mags of over 15 rounds, I purposely went to PA and NY to by 30-rounders. Not only didn’t I comply, I actively violated the law. Oh, and I will do the same again...my family was severely victimized (including dozens murdered) by regimes That had gun control (Soviet Russia and the Nazis), and I will NOT be deprived of the means to effectively defend myself and my family.

Irish Bob the fake Hispanic doesn’t even know his own state let alone most of the country between the coasts.

Hell, in much of the US, just try and order police to confiscate weapons, and they will tell you to go get knotted.

I can imagine little Beto and his peers throwing a tantrum.

“I *order* you to arrest those people! Obey me! Obey me!”, like some cheesy movie villain screaming at his henchmen.

O'Rourke Believes Americans Will Willingly Comply with Gun Confiscation Won't Need Police
If they don't need the police, who's stopping them from doing it now?

I have yet to meet an owner of an AR-15 who thinks it’s OK that we have these kind of mass killings in this country.

Note that he doesn't say that he has met an owner of an AR-15 who would turn it in under his proposal.

“Mandatory buyback.”

An oxy-moronic term invented by real morons.

YOU MUST voluntarily surrender all instruments of your self defense! And do it NOW! Or else we’ll...uh...think of something...and you WONT like it ONE BIT!

“No. I don’t see the law enforcement going door to door,” O’Rourke said in response to a question at the New Hampshire Democratic Party Convention on Saturday.

“I see Americans complying with the law. I see us working with gun owners, non-gun owners, local, county, state, federal law enforcement to come up with the best possible solution. I have yet to meet an owner of an AR-15 who thinks it’s OK that we have these kind of mass killings in this country.”

Is he an idiot? If people don't comply with gun bans in some of the reddest states, what makes him think the rest of the country would be more likely to play along?

Connecticut Gun Owners Fail to Register; Officials Push “Amnesty”
Estimates on the number of guns subject to the legislation, meanwhile, indicate that there may be as many as 500,000. Based on those figures, analysts suggested that perhaps less than 10 percent — possibly even less than five percent — of the items subject to the draconian new gun-control regime were registered with authorities by the deadline.
...
“I’ve seen estimates of 1,000,000 firearm magazines that should have been registered under the law, but the state reports registering only 40,000 ... just 4 percent.”
...
“In California in 1990, out of an estimated 300,000 guns classified as ‘assault weapons’ just 7,000 were registered.”
[2.3%]

Massive noncompliance with SAFE Act
That data shows massive noncompliance with the assault weapon registration requirement. Based on an estimate from the National Shooting Sports Federation, about 1 million firearms in New York State meet the law’s assault-weapon criteria, but just 44,000 have been registered. That’s a compliance rate of about 4 percent. Capanna said that the high rate of noncompliance with the law could only be interpreted as a large-scale civil disobedience, given the high level of interest and concern about the law on the part of gun owners.
“It’s not that they aren’t aware of the law,” said Capanna. “The lack of registration is a massive act of civil disobedience by gun owners statewide.”
