THE GREAT AMERICAN SONGBOOK
RICHARD RODGERS
SIMPLE SIMON: TEN CENTS A DANCE
This 1960 recording comes from her days with Gary Moore and Durward Kirby on CBS in the Fifties. It was back in the era when she lost her head over John Foster Dulles.

This video clip is from The Dean Martin Show on NBC in the late Sixties. This is a great song for a comedy routine, and while Caterina sings, Dom DeLuise mugs his way through the sketch. Dino is the King of Cool as always.

Good evening, ML...((HUGS))...has your weather cooperated and let you and Penny and you and Blue get out and stretch your legs?
We’ve finally got about an inch and a half of real rain. They say a good storm, with goodly amounts of rain, is coming this next week.
Hopefully it will help put the smoldering fires out for good. We need a good, DEEP rain, but are happy with whatever we can get.

The music for this tune is rather unusual--set in 3/4 time with a lot of triplets, and sounding like an American post-Civil War Protestant hymn. It is well-arranged and makes effective use of dynamics. It was also a big hit.

Howdy,Kathy! ((((hugs))))
Just saw this news of you getting a nice rain. I’m so happy for you and hope you get more so all those fires will finally be history.

The Fabulous Baker Boys of 1988 featured Beau and Jeff Bridges as a duo piano team that hooks up with Michelle at a Seattle club. She does her own singing. This is a clip from the fim.

Michelle Pfeiffer: Ten Cents a Dance (1988) One would think that iby 1988, the price of a dance would have gone up due to inflation.
