I don't think this is a good idea for the Tories long term. Pushing Farage away will only make him stronger.

I’ll laugh the day he becomes prime minister.

There’s no more sensible a Briton than Nigel Farage.

On a Trump scale, he’s at least a “9”.

I think he is a great guy but generally not a PM material. He is a perfect troll but you need to be more constructive for executive position.

The Tories should instead adopt a “united front” strategy of welcoming all as allies who in good faith support Brexit in October and leave it to the voters to judge suitability for office.

The same kind of people didn’t think Trump was POTUS “material” either.

The difference is huge. Trump indeed has managing experience.

Farage has business experience too, working for brokerage firms from the 1980s till the 2000s.

I liken Nigel Farage more to Trey Gowdy than Donald Trump. Like Trey he talks a big game then he bails when the going gets tough.

Boris is a goon being played by his own party. He shouldn’t be tossing offers of help out the porthole willy nilly. It gives far too much leverage to the opposition by swearing not to use a specific chess piece.

More precise would be to say that Farage knows everything on what and why is wrong and little to none on how to do right.

Bad mistake on Johnson’s part.

well yes, he did that with the Brexit referendum. But it would be good for him to be in governance and then to see if he can actually do what he promised

Johnson also originally didn’t want anything to do with Trump. Maybe he’s just not as smart as people think.

It could be that Boris is playing a game where he gives the Establishment a choice: you can deal with me -- or if I'm swept away, you can deal with Nigel.

Martin Luther King used Malcolm X as a similar alternative.

This is a very bad strategy by Johnson. I think his ego may be dictating the decision that he will not work with Farage. If the goal is to exit the EU without being a serf to the EU, then Johnson should accept Farage’s offer of cooperation.

Who is King and who is X is not that clear in this case.
