"The real story here is Ham Radio is a threat to the government."

Bottom line.
Tin foil hat says: what are they planning to do that they don't want Ham radio broadcasting?

The peoples’ republic of california is shutting it down because it can’t control it. Ham radio is self-monitored and self-policed. Hams do not cause any trouble!

In typical leftist fashion, when there’s something that functions well, but they can’t control, they destroy it.

Or is it because it might be offensive to m*slims to hear the word “ham” all the time?

If Joe Walsh (the guitarist) was dead, he’d be rolling in his grave, too.

He’s a big-time Ham Radio enthusiast.

Libs could (and would) shut off the cellular network in order to keep the proles in line. They couldn’t do that with the ham folks. (Yes, wideband jamming is possible, but many xmtrs at multiple frequences would required and even then the jammers could be DF’d and decommissioned by ...er...folks on our side.)

Nope, not paranoid, but realistic.

Never, EVER trust a progressive. They are the enemy.

Bottomless slime.

NEVER EVER.

The slinky antenna is cool, But how would you measure it to trim for wave length?

Divide the length you need for your antenna by the circumference of the slinky.

Worth repeating:

The left wants to eliminate any type public mass communication that it can't control entirely.

Control all communication. We've seen in the middle east and China that in times of civil uprising the government shuts down all cell phone and internet communication. They want that ability with radio.

As for myself, I have been a ham radio operator for close to fifty years and hold an extra class license and my call starts with WB9.....I do believe that the real reason for shutting down ham radio is that if law and order breaks down, and not just in an emergency, ham radio operators still can provide an essential link, something a totalitarian government which is hell bent on controlling every facet in our daily life’ can not permit.

This is one of the first things any government which intends to take total control will do, is to shut down communications which they can not control. First take all the guns and then restrict free communications. Well I think Kalifornia is well on its way and people better wake up, as most of them are too ignorant to pay attention to the proverbial handwriting on the wall as the “Canary in the coalmine” which is an harbinger for the rest of nation has just about taken its last breath. No doubt that many of you have heard the saying “The way Kalifornia goes, so goes the rest of the nation” What dreadful thought !

Seems that California just can’t stop proving just how incompetent and arrogant they can truly be. Just one more action in a long line of them that is leading to the destruction and ruin of the state and of the US by the hard left socialists. California voters getting the kind of government they keep voting in.

“They might be saying bad things over the airwaves about Democrats...shut ‘em down!” :)

I always suspect these things have to do with the Left’s desire to control all means of communication.

You are absolutely right. If I remember right, totalitarian countries like Albania absolutely forbade ham radio. Today it’s Yemen and North Korea that don’t allow ham radio.

Control over the minds and mouths of the citizens is what the left wants!

What a pile of BS. I was a LEDO (Lab Emergency Duty Officer) at a national lab and we always used the ham operators during exercises and any actual emergencies. Sometimes that was the only way we could communicate.

California being dumb-ass stupid again. Just after more money.
