Yes, but 50 senators (plus Pence) could simply decline to consider any charges coming out of the secret hearings. Worse, from Pelosi’s POV, they might subpoena Schiff and put him on the hot seat. They can’t do that under any other circumstances, I agree - but in the context of an impeachment . . .

What they agreed to is meaningless.
They refused to consider a “we will not convict” resolution, by a large majority.

I’m thinking NOT just Utah. Add Arizona and Nevada, Flake and the former Majority leader in the Senate, Senator whatshisname who got ostensibly thrown off the exercise machine and lost an eye. All three belong to the same political party, only two of them were stealth members until they couldn’t help themselves and became mavericks in the mold of another good and dead Senator.
During the Kavanaugh hearings, I decided to stop calling Mitch “The Turtle” and Lindsey “Linda” until they earned the titles back.....they’ve both been close to the tipping point over the last couple months but they keep having small “redeeming” moments.
