It's complicated. There was contamination of water at Camp Lejeune, and it has been linked to diseases in later life. The military didn't recognize many of the claims put in by veterans, until a law was finally passed by Congress, but even then, government agencies dragged their feet.

McConnell doesn't seem to be directly involved in any of this. He did oppose a Bernie Sanders bill that would have vastly expanded the health system for veterans, because of budgetary concerns. The suspicion is that is the reason why Rankin blames McConnell or maybe he sees McConnell as the reason why Congress and the bureaucracy dragged their feet for so long, in which case he's probably exaggerating McConnell's influence.

If you ever get in a situation like this, it's better to make a personal appeal to the Senator or Representative, to give them a chance to take action, before you blame them. Hundreds, maybe thousands of bills get voted up or down every year and the politicians don't always know what the real world effects of a vote may be. Also bear in mind that partisanship isn't always the reason bills get defeated. Richard Burr's bill to provide compensation to the sick veterans had bipartisan support. It also faced bipartisan opposition, as well as military and bureaucratic opposition.

That’s the way it is when you’re a Democrat. The VA denies benefits and it’s the fault of a Senator from another state (Rankin being from NC and McConnell from KY). Why is it McConnell’s fault? Because of hate. Hate twists the mind. That man will probably never be happy.

you understand that the basis for ‘asking for help’ about which we know nothing— as in WHEN was this brother “exposed to contaminated water” in the USMC? More precisely— was his brother exposed to ‘contaminated’ water while in the USMC active duty.

If you knew anything about VA benefits and coverage you would know this would be a central FIRST question. And you have no knowledge of any of this— only what this publicity seeking cummings machine pol (that is who Rankin is, btw- but you don’t know that either) grandstanding for the media.
McConnell would not have a THING to do with VA referrals of care from Cumming’s downline ‘hood’ pal. Cummings a loooooooong way removed from Cummings.
