I was doing a job in Oxon Hill MD back in the mid 90s ... It was a working neighborhood and I was paving the entire subdivision. (actually ‘baby sitting’ for a friend of mine)
The make up was about minimum White - I figure the ‘poor’ ones that just couldn’t or wouldn’t sell when all their ‘neighbors’ did and now couldn’t afford to move, very majority Black, like I said ALL worked and the whole neighborhood was ‘upset’ with the Spanish moving in with the ‘cars all over the place’ ‘too many in one house etc’ basically the exact opposite of the 60/70s when the Blacks were moving into the ‘White’ neighborhoods.
The more things change, the more they stay the same.
And I believe that I understand yours.
I live in the shadow of seattle - one of the most insane cities on the west coast. It has infected the small town I live in to the point where I’m eying the exits. As such I have to choose my battles. That given, if attacked I do not give ground.
I had a circumstance roughly similar to Cuccinelli’s where my party was attacked in a restaurant. They started it - but we finished it with them tucking tail and retreating. Incidentally they were 86’d from the establishment not us.

This event is a very important event to the school. If things got out of hand it could have been very costly to young and old attendees. Ken did the responsible thing by leaving. Martin should be banned from future events.

Get into an argument with O'Malley? A shouting match? Fisticuffs? Brawling in the in the bar? Or maybe out into the streets? What alternative course of action was there except taking the high road and walking away? None.

Like I said in another comment, this is not middle school where every taunt deserves a response.
Who cares if a loser like O'Malley acts like Antifa? Let him. He was no doubt drunk and looking for a fight. But this is not the school playground. Cuccinelli did the right thing be keeping his cool.
Cuccinelli won this round without lifting a finger or raising his voice.
Throw a drink in his face, then say, “I’ll be outside.”
Then leave, and wait.
My inclination would be to loudly invite him to take it outside — and, if he declined, to pop him a few good licks until he went down. Skinny and barely five-seven, I would go at him like an angry badger.
