You betcha that’s part of the “Green New Deal.” You think they’re gonna upgrade every house in America? Balderdash (in place of a more descriptive word.) They’re going to build East German style concrete monstrosities in concentrated areas (dare I say camps?), move in the suburbanites, and bulldoze suburbia. All those pesky red counties that cover the electorial map? Gone!!! Replaced by collective farms. Better toe the line or you just might find yourself assigned there for re-education. And I’m deadly serious. Virginia is letting the cat out of the bag too soon. Bet they get told to cool it.

A few years back the middle class (upper middle class?) and very "progressive" town in which I lived in was in an uproar. It seems that some developer proposed a small "affordable housing" project for a small piece of open land.
The progressives were outraged! Think of the children" they screamed. "The traffic will endanger the community".
The Town Meeting's approval was reversed. The children were saved!

Here in Washington State we call it the Growth Management Act. Then you couple that with the stormwater regulations and they will achieve the same results...

Bullshit. It would not outlaw single family homes. It would just allow multi family homes as well as single family homes.

IMO it depends on the area. California has such a desperate housing shortage, and so much of that is due to NIMBYism (Not In My Back Yard), that this is a proper and necessary part of addressing all the myriad problems caused by those issues. Other things are necessary too, but a state government override of local single-family residence zoning has to be part of that package.
For the whole bloody state of California, where I'ved lived all of my life. Of which the last 37 years has been in a single-family residence in a single-family zoned subdivision that I designed myself. There is lots of buildable land here. Draw a straight line between Sacramento and Fresno, find a point halfway between those two cities and there I am.
There are lots of areas where this solution is necessary, and probably some other whole states.
