The 3 perps entered Japan on student visas. As for the other two: “Wei’s accomplices fled to China after the crime. One was executed by Chinese authorities in 2005 while the other is serving a life sentence.” https://www.upi.com/Top_News/World-News/2019/12/26/Japan-hangs-Chinese-man-who-killed-family-in-2003/8461577359082/

Sixteen years of absolute uncertainty as to when the big drop will happen. But if memory serves, the Japanese believe this is kinder to the condemned than giving him an execution date.

I’m probably hoping against hope, however... I am hoping the reason Barr decided to re-establish the Federal Death Penalty was for a reason.....

I can always hope....

Assuming he was guilty I have no problem with that. It’s my understanding that Japan isn’t nearly as tolerant of criminality as some countries.

100% Deterrent.

No, but the recidivism rate is 0%.

I kind of liked the punishment from “Shogun” where
the convicted was buried up to the neck at a cross roads,
and passers by were invited to saw at his neck with a
piece of split bamboo.

That’s the way they do it in Japan; you get a death sentence with no definitive date set.

You never know what day or time it will be, just that IT WILL HAPPEN.

Some people think it is cruel and unusual punishment, I happen to think it is appropriate to let them suffer, just wondering when they will get it.
