In 1956 I almost died from sunstroke while picking strawberries. It was plenty warm on that day.

Russian troll farms have stollen all the strawberries! That’s why they’re called “farms”, man!

Canned fruit is for winter in my house in Upstate NY. It's called stocking up.

My mom canned...strawberry jam, peaches and pears. Ummmmmmm good.

Surprised the article didn’t cite Trump’s crackdown on
“migrants” as a source of the shortage.

Aren’t Florida strawberries a February thing?

It’s worse than that. DNA testing has shown that the nearest plant related to the strawberry is — (wait for it now) — marijuana.

That explains this:

“California in particular is having trouble growing enough strawberries because of colder than normal temperatures,”

COLDER than “normal” (a.k.a. “recently used to”) temperatures!!!

How in this age of constant “global warming” is that possible??? /sarc

Wasn’t there a problem with the corn crop too? I haven’t seen corn bagels or english muffins in a long while.

A lot of strawberry farming is now done in caterpillar tents in elevated planters. The plants are now in much more controlled temperatures, at about chest height, so are far easier to tend, with standard water and mineral nutrition, and very little insect damage.

Because of this, there has been a surfeit of strawberries for much of the last decade, and three or four seasons a year.

Next, they are probably trying to produce superior hybrids. For example breeding out the airspace inside the fruit so it is just fruit.

I've found that the hugeier the strongberries are, the less flavor they have. Regular sized local strawberries taste best.

I remember when I was a younger steveo riding my motorcycle down Beach blvd. Anaheim in the summer the smell would make my mouth water.

I used mixed berries in my recipes this year. Tasted good if not better than just strawberries.

Strawberry’s are just pissed off because they’re the only fruit that has it’s seeds on the outside.
