Yes, Virginia sheriff’s are elected by the voters in their counties.
A bit hard to outright fire a deputy normally, but these ain’t normal times.
Besides “troublesome” deputies can be given the crap assignments, given the car with no heat/a.c., be made to rewrite their reports every day and other things to make them get their minds right or get out.

That is true but breaking the system would be a big first win. Negotiating the terms from that point would be another question but there is plenty of room for agreement (huge plurality of voters, parents) on prioritizing the teaching of reading, writing, math, sciences; proficiency for students (and teachers); and classroom vs administrative and overhead spending.

Some on the left will push social issues but imo they will be muted by many other hot issues. Teachers unions will fight like heck, but the truth of the matter is that many teachers will see a substantial pay raise in a competitive market for education. Some can be partners/owners in their schools. Some will have to find new work.

And a by-product would be how this bleeds into higher education priorities. Universities are spending a fortune on pampering snowflakes.

Interestingly King Blackface has put in motion Virginia removing the statue of R E Lee in the Senate Statuary Hall of the States. His next step, or what his controllers will direct is starting the process to remove the really large statues of CSA leaders on Monument Ave. They are equestrian statues of Lee, T J Jackson, Stuart and A P Hill, I believe. The size of the statues will require they be dismantled in place and removed in pieces. This is going to spark outrage equal to Blackfaces’s abridgment of the 2nd amendment.
