that was a decapitation operation of historic order, and any retaliatory jihad is likely to suffer from a sudden leadership deficit as a result.

True.

Trump “escalate”???????

Bull-F’n Shiite!!!! The low-life SOB was on Iraqi soil planning another attack. Iran escalated this situation with attacks. Made perfect sense to me. Trump simply asked Dirty Harry’s rhetorical question:

“Do you feel lucky today?”

“Iran will close the straits”

And the USA will open them.

Why do ya think the Iranians haven’t done that yet? What’s the hold up?

Spengler and a clutch of other writers regard the Muslim world and Islam’s two main sects as undergoing an existential crisis as most of their economies stagnate and their nation-states struggle with even basic tasks. There are also signs of a demographic crisis. It may be that a generation from now Islam will mostly be a spent force, discredited by its inability to elevate the lives of its adherents.

I’m not a fan of our Iraqi intervention, as I consider it to have been a total disaster. I am, however, quite pleased to see the flaming end of a flaming a******* who killed 600 of our finest young men and women and maimed countless others. Singing ‘i’m in bits and pieces”, I’m sure he went straight to Hell. Bon voyage.

Iran will close the straits

>Worse yet, they may try to sink one of our carriers...that would be quite a payback.

Wasn’t Hussein president for eight years between Bush and Trump? The author doesn’t mention Barry at all.

I noticed that too, very funny. His foreign policy failures didn't even get a footnote.

The President is only doing his part to defend our country. Iran has attacked the U.S.A. in many ways over the past few decades including exporting troops and improvised explosive devices to kill our soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Trump inherited a weak hand...

But the president holds all the trump cards.

I’d like to believe that, and there is logic in both premises. But, the Muslim world seems to be defined by illogic. We’ll probably have the answer within our lifetimes, and I pray that Spengler is right.

This stood out:

“Two dozen missiles or bombing sorties could wipe out Iran’s economy in a matter of hours. Fewer than a dozen power plants generate 60% of Iran’s electricity, and eight refineries produce 80% of its distillates. A single missile strike could disable each of these facilities, and bunker-buster bombs of the kind that Israel used last month in Lebanon would entirely destroy them. Without much effort, the US could destroy the Port of Kharg from which Iran exports 90% of its hydrocarbons.”
