“Are you people not aware of SpaceX? The guy is not just Tesla. He is a for real genius. Oddball, yes. Genius, too.”

He smoked pot, so according to our resident FR geniuses he’s a moron.

“Musk has done most everything on government (yours and my) money.”

What Musk has done with government money basically parallels and surpasses what NASA has done with government money. Why is the one acceptable and the other not?

With space exploration, diseconomies of scale require funding that is not possible with companies that operate solely on production profits.

I suppose it would be possible to apply pressure to Musk and have him seek employment for one of our enemies. They would be gratified to have use of his talents.

Edison was a zero compared to Tesla.

As far as I know Elon Musk never invented anything.

I agree. He’s a force of nature.

In fact he’s a lot like Trump.

“It’s comments like yours that make me realize that ideological Conservatives aren’t much better than ideological liberals.”

And we have a ton of them here in freeperland. Thinking outside their tiny box scares them.

“I disagree with the president on this one. Edison did most everything on his own, or private money. Musk has done most everything on government (yours and my) money.”

I would also argue that his ideas are based on existing technology. What he does is just think in different ways to use them. Genius? Maybe, but he reminds me of the classic tinkerer. I also noticed he does not go after radical projects like free energy or technology that will or would change the world but projects that have major political baggage and that equals funding be it tax money or private cash. Just observations.

He made a really good electric car. And his engineers tweaked and tuned new battery tech that he didn’t invent.
That’s cool, it’s still brilliance and it’s good thinking but it’s not groundbreaking. I’m making a really nice stun gun, for instance. I’m not a genius.

The rocket thing is a rocket. It’s balanced with what amounts to the gyro sensors in a cellphone.

It’s all neat stuff, and he’s killing it - really, he is. But he’s no genius inventor. He just makes things we already know about better.
