I’ll probably catch flak for this, but why are we in Afghanistan?
G—d! He looks barely old enough to shave.
If this was the Taliban, they are playing with the piece talks. They force Trump to retaliate, to up the US commitment, because to do otherwise would be to show weakness, which is absolute folly. But then they pretend they want to talk piece. It’s a game and they’re playing the US for fools. Only thing to do is to find all the Taliban leaders, and give them the same treatment that has already been meted out to Bag-Daddy, Salami, and others. Get the chiefs, not the braves. And really really get them. And the hell with negotiations. Make sure there’s nobody left to negotiate with. Let the rest run for their lives.
These are men, America’s best. RIP.
See my #3 about how to get out. You’re right. It’s a waste of time and men. So destroy the leadership.
He's a green beret. He was a tough soldier, as shown in his photograph. Memory eternal to this great man!
motive behind the attack is unknown at this time.

It’s Islam, stupid.
“Ill probably catch flak for this, but why are we in Afghanistan?”
I can say this, that when PDT was reported in negotiations with the Taliban last year my Marine Captain Nephew was pissed. I would say he would be a good gauge of current soldiers thoughts on the Afghanistan issue and that they don’t want to leave after so much blood, sweat and tears only for the Taliban to take over the country again is a matter of weeks. And he has served there.
POTUS has the right idea. Eliminate the leadership. As a new leader arises takes charge, eliminate him. It won’t take long before they catch on and no one wants to be a leader.
In combat, snipers are tasked with job of targeting leadership. That’s why no ranks appear on the steel pots we wore. Leaderless troops are quickly defeated, usually they run.
Can’t post El PasoTimes
I understand the perspective but that sounds like the sunk cost fallacy to me. There is nothing to gain by staying at this point. Just more dead Americans. If we are going to stay, then we must take the gloves off and kill every last Taliban member and probably most of their families. Theres no other way to get rid of a roach nest other than kill all the roaches.
RIP Brother. God bless and comfort your family, your brothers in arms.
The photograph makes him look nervous and scared, a boy. Green berets, I know, are the smartest and toughest. But I think that pic was taken before he had seen combat.
Their bravery is to be commended. But I fear their sacrifices will ultimately be futile. Alexander the Great, the British, and the Soviets tried to conquer Afghanistan and failed. Unless we kill them all, we will fail also.
What you nephew said is the reason why the military is under civilian control. Our soldiers and Marines should never give up. Our leaders need to be the ones to either call it a day, or call in the B52s.
RIP HERO..once again, why are we STILL in Afghanistan, should have gotten out a long time ago..so many American blood spilled..RIP to these brave heroes
Non believers of Islam are infidels. Infidels in Afghanistan are not safe...we're not safe in our own country from the jihadist. This is an Afghan problem...it is not an American problem....let the Shia and Sunni fight it out as they have for centuries.
Mr. President please bring our troops home and put unyielding sanctions on those countries that allow terrorists to flourish.
God Bless him and his family. This really p*sses me off. RIP.
