and this group is receiving excellent supportive care. However many are elderly so the mortality rate is yet to emerge
people are being released today with no precautions, only 500+ sick and people in immediate contact remain, all others free to go n spread any virus they pick up on way off the ship
That’s a lot of 50c army!
“Just the flu” alert!
That is describing the quarantine onboard the ship, not at the Japanese hospitals where the infected were transferred. There is no medical treatment onboard, once diagnosed they are moved
Unconfirmed reports that 22 are now in critical condition
500+ quarantined with infected on ship as of a few hours ago - no, they are not moved to Japanese hospitals which have no ID personal to begin with and cannot care for them properly according to ID doctor that visited ship. They are only moved out at request of their countries in containers or the like. All others released this morning
What about CCP?
Chinese Communist Pathogen
Since it has over half of the diagnosed cases outside of China it is a big snap shot. That it has spread so far and wide on the ship is really scary.
I’m normally for free trade, and I’m opposed to the universal tariffs on steel and aluminum. But China is clearly showing itself, once again, to be a bad actor. I would recommend Trump take the tariffs that he currently has imposed on China, and ramp them up to a universal 25% rate on all Chinese goods (his max tariff on some of them so far). To hell with Winnie the Flu!
Ever read Thomas Friedman (the Panda-Hugger)? His book The Lexus and The Olive Tree is a paean to the Deep State, that *nobody* can resist the markets, because the markets are bigger than any individual or country...and that is why the Deep State will win.
Yeah, right.
The issue isn't the fatalities in China. China has had multiple episodes of ~20 million dead, from some of its internal wars in pre-Commie days, to the Great Leap Forward.
The issue is the shutdown of the factories and breakdown in logistics: the supply chains.
To disrupt them, what is a mere 2% fatality rate?
But when the virus spreads as easily as the common cold, and (say) 20% of those who get it need to be hospitalized...
Factories and logistics *shut down*.
And business, and demand, wait for no man.
China was already facing issues due to its strategy of being *the* low-cost supplier (due to polluting the sh*t out of its land and water, and endless cheap bodies to throw at things), being outmoded as Chinese workers started costing more. And due to the non-perfomance of government-owned businesses which nonetheless, due to party connections, could not be allowed to fail. And due to thieving dishonesty -- intellectual property theft, cheating, piss-poor quality control.
Now you take away their ability to deliver in a "just in time" world?
Their customers look elsewhere.
Their only hope is to ramp up the lying, flog the workers, and increase the bribery of foreigners. Think DiFiChiSpy, think half of the Senate and Congress, think Harvard (Chem Dept Chair ARRESTED for under-the-table payments to install spies and transfer technology), think the queer in charge of Apple, think Attorney General Barr's meeting with state governors and the like talking about "we know which of you are on the take from China".
People like to bleat "the flu kills more in t he US" ...yes, but those who are not already in the workforce.
China can lie all they want, but if their production in actual fact falls off...the stuff they force their subjects and slaves to endure, will not fool or satisfy paying customers.
And the corrupt Western leaders who took bribes to undermine the US, if they push more adulterated crap, will then have to push harder on corrupt government officials to overcome their market weakness.
Guess what happens when Trump *exposes* the whole sordid mess? That it was done with the express intent of destroying our country?
China's only way out ( and the corrupt deep states only way out) is to coax the cure before all hell breaks lose...and falls apart in the ways you describe or in very similar ways... Hats off to you grey whiskers - that's an impressive rant.
25% tariff on all Chinese goods, now! Also, just tear up the Phase I agreement; it’s not as though they will honor it anyway>

Do we trust China’s numbers?
It seems the Chinese government (China Inc) has a vested interest in lying - - They need to staunch the flow of losses: stop companies from looking elsewhere for more reliable suppliers.
Once China starts going under the process will feed on itself...
That was my first hint this virus was possibly an 'escape' from the level four bio-lab...
In totalitarian hellholes communication has to be from one trusted person to another. A husband knows something. He tells his brother. The brother tells his wife and father - they tell a trusted uncle and on and on and on... Everyone is careful and works to keep the information from verbal contamination.
When I saw other countries in the region start to react as if this was a lab virus... with ZERO official comment to that effect - I knew the underground chain was working quickly to safeguard family members.
It's a very effective system and you're right to respect it. The biggest danger is people who don't live in totalitarian hellholes NOT realizing how important secrecy is to maintain lives and information flows.

Wouldn't be surprised to see that number take a noticeable
hit.
So would you say that for the “outside” China numbers, that are doing the same thing?
Yeah. When you weld the residents of block after block after city block of high rise apartments into those buildings, you’re ultimately murdering a lot of people.
Even if none of them had a highly communicable and potentially fatal disease.
There are several other variables, including genetics, pollution, smoking, personal approach distance, swamped medical care, expertise of doctors, general hygiene, ...
But Singapore's got a lid on it, mostly; Japan, not so much.
And there've been a couple of fatalities in (Warm!) locations like Iran, too...
That’s a good idea but even better just tariff the product not the country. Bring it home.
On the other hand, I'm not convinced it doesn't mirror what is going on to
some extent.
Only time will tell if the disease is dying out across the nation.
We should hear of quarantines being lifted, fewer reports of the sorts of
things we've come to expect.
If the number of declared active cases drops by a significant number
and the general population situation doesn't improve, it's just going to
further display what type of nation it's leaders have created.
There is value in these numbers one way or another.
These are my thoughts on the JHU report and China's broader picture.
