Somewhere yesterday I heard or read that’s it’s called COVID-19, because it’s the 19 variation of the corona virus.
Here in my house, we call it the Chinese bio-weapon, because it’s the Chinese bio-weapon.

I still want to understand how mainland Asia outside of China has fewer cases than the US and how sub Saharan Africa has fewer cases than Long Island.
My only conjecture on Africa is that perhaps they have it but they don’t know they have it.

It is late summer in the Southern Hemisphere. There are a few cases reported south of the equator, such as Hanks and his wife, but they are due to air travel from the Northern Hemisphere where it is still late winter.
Is this the same virus that was a modified SARS, and Plummer took a sample to Winnipeg Virus Research Lab where the Chinese scientists stole the sample?

IF, it were an intentionally produced weapon, and intentionally released, it did a lot of things that have happened that benefit China;
-A subtle warning; China has a bio weapons program. And this virus while not horribly deadly (allowing the plausible deniability associated by not having to protect their own population, this time), could be deadly next time, and shows how a weaponized virus can spread, perhaps much more deadly next time.
-China can have a antidote and keep it to themselves doing horrible damage and massive death before we could produce a counter to the virus.
-Trump disrupted a favorable ( to china) trade situation, and now Trump will have a damaged economy now to go into the re election cycle with.
Just imagine the economic chaos next time, with an equally spreadable virus, only deadly.
Far from being isolated WHO is all over Africa because of things like ebola. Five people in the Congo get ebola the world knows about it in 48 hours. If Covid cases were appearing and hospitalizations increasing WHO would know it.

I guess the question is not very good. The naming of the disease is not the name of the virus. The WHO site you linked is all post-outbreak, so the disease and virus name(s) are all after-the-fact, and based on whatever came OUT of Wuhan, not whatever might have gone into it.
If the virus was being grown in a lab somewhere, even in Wuhan, I suppose I wouldn’t expect WHO to know about it.
Which is why the part of your original post I quoted was about sub-Saharan Africa. As for the Northern Hemisphere, nearly all of the spread was due to international travel, mostly by plane.
Remember,that is the “official” explanation. The biological lab is the “unofficial” explanation.
