The six-day curative only happens when the hyrodxycholoroquine is paired with azithromycin. The HCQ by itself still works, but takes longer.
This information needs to be blasted into the larger media to force a debate and, maybe, individual doctors and patients deciding on their own to try it. Are we, as a country, being led over a cliff that will so damage the economy that it will be like 1929?

Unfortunately Fauci is no Trump. Too much the bureaucrat. Too much by the book. Too little since of urgency. Too little understanding of the cost of delay, both economic and death count..
Troops took them constantly for at least one year in SE Asia as a malaria preventive. Some did multiple tours. No problems.

Yes, but the dosage required for malaria prophylaxis is known. That for COV-19....not yet known. Having known human safety data is a huge plus, as is the fact that the military undoubtedly has tons of this stuff in reserve for possible deployments, and one of the recent emergency acts invoked allows Trump to commandeer those stocks for civilian use.
I talked to a few RATS that live close by today. They act like they don’t want a cure. They listen to the fake news that is telling them that the promising cures are not real and/or will kill you.
The problem is not a shortage of chloroquine phosphate tablets. Millions are available right now. The problem is that the FDA is charged with protecting US citizens from drugs that are not proven to be safe and effective.
The gold standard for this proof is a Randomized Controlled Trial (RCT) using active and placebo treatment arms that are used on a large enough number of people to be able to generalize the data. The French study was an RCT but with a small number of patients (N=22). The FDA can’t legally approve this off label use without an RCT however doctors can prescribe it if they believe it will do no harm and are willing to accept any legal risk.
The current approach is to do a larger RCT, confirm the French study, and approve the label expansion. Short of that doctors can prescribe it based on “compassionate use” criteria (to save someone that is dying).
Its easy to just blame greedy Big Pharma for the FDA doing its job when people are panicked.
You can order naturally-based (bark) quinine tablets that have far more ingredient than tonic water.

But the military still had people take it.
It has a high Zinc content. If your a man and need some help as you get older... I did this, Zinc, Cod Liver Oil and Raw Apple cider Vinegar. Took a bit as I was probably low on dosage. When it started kicking in.... I was not 18 again but was on my way. That has been quite some time ago, I do not have the time with 5 kids and a business, wish I did. But when the time comes....

I would venture to say that malaria (being a parasite) would require more than a virus would when used as a preventative.

I suspect you're right, but the data still has to be gotten (and it will...I suspect hospital personnel are already taking the meds as preventative...if I was a hospital admin, I would see that my people had access).
