Government retirement is guaranteed. And government jobs are guaranteed. So, where is the problem?

Excellent point about cancelling sports. I was shocked when the PGA Tout ended the Players Golf Championship after the first day. At first they said that they would play with no spectators, then they cancelled the entire thing. The players were already there. They have separation, playing outdoors. At least it could have been on TV.

I saw one of the players interviewed who said that he would not want to risk visiting his grandmother and giving her the C virus. That indicated to me the panic that had flooded our country. Maybe he could have not visited his grandmother for a few weeks

Cancelling future tournaments which would have involved travel is understandable. Cancelling one where all the essential people are already there seems different to me.

I’m convinced that most of these sports organizations were ready to implement a plan to hold their events with no spectators. That all changed when the NBA suspended its season after one of their PLAYERS tested positive and had to be quarantined.

I'm hoping the country's citizen-to-government trust disappears entirely as a result of this fiasco.

Sadly, it will be the opposite. They cannot think of anyone else to turn to if the business world is gone. Nobody else is big enough.

Media and government types also did just fine during the Great Depression, as a rule. No worries.

Bottom Line...

(1) Protect the elderly and the infirm to the best of our ability. Spend whatever it takes.

(2) Do not destroy the American economy and our standard of living.

(3) In the USA, there is ZERO evidence that COVID-19 is worse than previous severe flu seasons.

(4) Is New York state worse?

No.

Last week, New York had 7,200 new influenza infections and 1,000 new influenza hospitalizations.

Two months ago, the New York influenza numbers were THREE times that high.

In 2018, New York had 4,749 influenza deaths in a completely average influenza season.

Did Governor Cuomo shut down the entire state of New York in 2018 to save lives?

Of course not!

It does not mean anarchy. It doesn’t mean you don’t obey the law, pay taxes, call 911 in an emergency. It means you don’t follow blindly. You “question authority” as the bumper sticker says, and start rethinking your assumptions.

If you no longer blindly trust the government, you might make different choices at the ballot box. You don’t trust and you have already verified based on the candidates track record.

What’s your problem? The original poster’s meaning was clear. I’m sorry you can’t grasp his meaning. By definition anarchy is “a state of disorder due to absence or nonrecognition of authority.” Not trusting government doesn’t reject authority. It doesn’t mean you drive on the left side of the road because you feel like it. It means you make your own judgments. You don’t follow stupid FDA food pyramids or cower in fear when the CDC says heterosexual AIDS is a huge problem just because they say so. It means you don't blindly swallow the usual moaning about school funding when new bond measures come up. Again, it’s obvious.

“It doesn’t mean you drive on the left side of the road because you feel like it.”

Do you trust the government to keep the other driver on his side or do you trust that he doesn’t want to get hurt?

I guess you think Reagan was an anarchist:

“The most terrifying words in the English language are: I’m from the government and I’m here to help.”
