Dr. Anthony Fauci says his coronavirus concerns became serious mid-January

That is correct. We had West Coast travel in early February and I was aware of the issue before making that trip because of reading about it here. Even had a plane change in Seattle, saw a fair of folks wearing surgical mask, which was a bit eye-opening.

I’m probably a little lucky I wasn’t an early recipient and carrier.

The first thing any virologist does in his professional duties is to maintain a daily log book, in hard copy book and ink. It’s habitual. Especially if the scientist relies upon statistical data, he would consult and nearly memorize the entries.

When Fauci makes such comments, he manifests he isn’t a real doctor or real scientist, just somebody who reads the work of others and likes to talk about it seeking public respect.

YOu really are confused. Slow down and actually read.
THE POINT IS not that Fauci said something wrong or inconsistent, as I said before.
The point is that now he claims that he told POTUS that it was time to social distance weeks before POTUS instituted social distancing and many lives could have been saved if POTUS had followed Fauci’s advice. POTUS announced the start of social distancing March 16.

So I went back and listened to the Sharpton interview again, and compared that to the link you posted.

I’ll agree that in the Sharpton interview if you don’t follow closely that you could take it as all occurring in mid-January - but if you DO listen closely, then you hear him move from talking about his concern of what was happening internationally in mid-January when they became aware of the community-spread in China, to what was happening during the shutdown of China travel Jan 30, and then on to the shutdown of travel from Europe, which was first a Do Not Travel advisory at the end of February, then an actual shutdown, to discussing the UK travel shut down March 14th.

The clip starts mid-sentence, so the context of what is clearly the situation in China, where we determined that it was not just animal-to-animal but amongst the community in China, is missing. As late as Jan 15th, China and WHO were saying there was no human-to-human transmission.

You can either prevent or try and block the influx of new cases from out of the country, and already cases that come in from China, to try and say ‘that’s it we’ve got to stop that,’ [China travel ban Jan 30] because now we already have cases here. And then it switched to Europe, and when Italy had their outbreak it became clear that that became a danger, so that’s when cases were cut off from coming in from Europe [February 29] and then ultimately the UK. But by that time [March 12], we had enough cases in our own country that the ability to do the containment slipped then into the need for mitigation, and we saw then what happened in New York.”

That is the money quote. No confusion there. The linked Fauci statements from 1/26, 2/19, 2/29, and March 6th about the cruise ship contradict Fauci's statement to Sharpton.

1/26 “Coronavirus isn’t something the American public need to worry about...It’s a very, very low risk to the United States.”

You should watch Dr. Fauci's presentation so you understand the full context. And then look at when he said it, which is the important point. The interview was on February 29th, and Dr. Fauci says absolutely nothing about there being the kind of risk to our nation that would be consistent with his more recent statement that he was advocating for much more stringent measures long before February 29th. If his more recent statements are true representations of his beliefs prior to February 29th, then his statements on TV then were intentionally misleading.

I'm basing my opinion solely on what Dr. Fauci actually said in a video recorded interview. If that doesn't reflect his actual beliefs at the time I would be surprised, but not overly so.
