Read around. The numbers are being padded.
This is just today...US coronavirus death totals compiled by CDC will now include 'probable' cases

padded new york deaths

Even PBR reported on it!
New York City's COVID-19 Death Toll Soars Past 10,000
New York City has drastically increased its estimate of the number of people killed by COVID-19 to include probable victims who were not tested.

You really have been isolated. Mentally and physically.

Trump and the Doctors Fauci & Birx already identified one cause for whatever reason, Race. , they don’t know why but will study the problem. Perhaps it is illegals, poor hygiene that needs to be taught(thank a teacher), inabilities eg language etc. Air quality and similar items.

Once hospitalized, it is not really a matter of race. It must be a matter of treatment protocol. I seriously doubt Texas residents that are hospitalized are inherently unhealthier or possess significantly worse underlying conditions. NYC has not had a lack of hospital beds, ICU, or ventilators.

Re: 124 - I wish I had more information to formulate an more informed viewpoint.

I do believe that antibody testing will provide some important data.

As I answered on Quora:

New York City and its suburban counties — Nassau, Suffolk, Westchester and Rockland — are responsible for 93% of the statewide case count.[1]

2. New York city has the highest population density of any major city in the United States, with over 27,000 people per square mile. [2]

3. Michael Schertz in his answer here reports that NYC has very strict criteria for testing in that one essentially needs to present themselves with symptoms and serious ones at that. Thus the mortality rate is basically based on the population most at risk of dying.

In contrast, Iceland reports that as of April 11 the country had “tested 10% of its population for coronavirus - a figure far higher than anywhere else in the world -” and that “about half of its citizenry at any given time who have coronavirus but don’t know it will be asymptomatic” (show no symptoms), which is “a large percentage many experts studying the virus have suspected, but have had little firm data to corroborate.”[3]

4. In addition, the CDC allows some leeway in assigning the cause of death: “COVID-19 should be reported on the death certificate for all decedents where the disease caused or is assumed to have caused or contributed to death [emp. by CDC].” “the rules for coding and selection of the underlying cause of death are expected to result in COVID-19 being the underlying cause more often than not.”[4]

5. Thus in contrast to its restrictions for testing, New York City,

“sharply increased its death toll by more than 3,700 victims on Tuesday, after officials said they were now including people who had never tested positive for the virus but were presumed to have died of it. Oxiris Barbot, the commissioner of the city Health Department, said in an interview. While these so-called excess deaths were not explicitly linked to the virus, they might not have happened had the outbreak not occurred.”[5]

6. Blacks and Hispanics have a significantly higher rate of obesity,[6] which condition (together with being overweight) is the second leading preventable cause of death in the United States.[7] And Black and Hispanic New Yorkers represent 51% of the city’s population, yet account for 62% of Covid-19 deaths.[8]

In addition, something to explore is Vit. D deficiency. Darker skinned people living in Northern latitudes are not as efficient at producing Vit. D from sun exposure as lighter skinned people.

That can somehow be construed by the Left as being racist.

Why is NYC such a glaring stand-out and also much more similar than the mortality rate of Europe?

Because NYC is full of old buildings with narrow hallways, small rooms, small, crowded grocery stores, narrow subway platforms, and cramped elevators, just like Europe. You cannot avoid being close to strangers in those places.

Indeed, and here in the NE you should take Vitamin D in the Winter no matter what color your skin is. And it is character, not color, that matters, while as one who has suffered 2nd burns on much of my Scottish/Irish body (as a teen) just by trying to be like my friends of Italian descent (about 5 hours at the beach) then I favor a darker shade at least.

I am scotts/Irish. At age 20, I had an episode where I was sitting in the shade for 5 hrs. I had on sunscreen pf8, a light weight white long sleeved shirt and sun bonnet.

The next day, I was heavily burned, and arms swollen like sausages. That was my last day light exposure of longer than 20 minutes. Been taking Vit D3 ever since.

I prefer to be tanned, but I am what I am, so I just go around being my natural pale face.

Ouch! I was about 14, and forsook "My son, hear the instruction of thy father, and forsake not the law of thy mother" (Proverbs 1:8) in (among other things) not "covering up" after about 25 minutes in the sun as I was exhorted to. For I wanted to be like my friends from the dairy bar where i worked, and just stayed out for the whole time they did.

As a result my legs were so badly burned that I vomited that night, and could not walk, and had a blister on one ankle the size of a tennis ball and one the size of a golf ball in the other, with sheets of skin coming off my back. Doc said I had 2nd degree burns and that my skin would not be normal for 6 months. Praise God I came thru it all though.

About the only tan i get is to some degree on my arms and back of my neck in the summer, but the early days of spring and summer is when we need to be most careful. My Mom got skin cancer on her back when she was in her 70's, but thank God they got is all out and she died at about 93.

I take some old D3 also, though you are sppsd to take it with K2.

Also, 7. A MIT study concluded that “the [use of the] subway seeded the massive coronavirus epidemic in New York City.” http://web.mit.edu/jeffrey/harris/HarrisJE_WP2_COVID19_NYC_13-Apr-2020.pdf

Yes, I do take Vit. k2 along with other stuff. I make sure to get the Calcium, D3, K2, Vit. C in at least the 100% daily doses. Take a multi vitamin every other day—it’s a high potency and has way more than the minimum required doses.

AS of a few days ago they put pretty much EVERYONE who’s died under the Covid-19 listing whether they tested positive or not ... or in many cases they were never tested at all. It gives the hospitals (including city hospitals) more $$$$ ... really simple. Most of us would call that corruption.

Yeah, that’s the point. It’s highly transmissible but not very deadly. Once we begin wide testing for antibodies I think we will see a LOT of people had it and never knew it.
