We live our lives with risks every damn day this country needs to get back to work people NEED to take care of their families!!
“They lead with obituary, then switch to cases in headline. Why isnt 1,560 deaths in headline?”
They’re trying to imply that all 36,000 cases are fatalities. How many readers are going to do the math? I’m pretty math-challenged, but I get 4.3% which is, IMO, an indictment of the medical care they’re receiving there. Last numbers I heard coming out of Germany were about a tenth that, at 0.37 percent.
I’m sure the Globe was only too happy to publish all of those obituaries. Last I looked into it in 2017, they wanted $300 for about a two-inch entry, double that if you put a photo in there.
“You need to understand, everyone in the US is going to get CCV, probably before there is a vaccine.”
What makes you thing there will be a vaccine? COVID-19 is a coronavirus. So is the common cold. Colds aren’t usually fatal these days, but they probably were when they first started. Even so, they cause a lot of lost time. Don’t you think that there would be a cold vaccine if it was either easy or even just possible?
This newspaper should NOW be required to post the same obituary for the next 3 year so that their posturing will be shown out.
A list of all deaths from all causes over that time would show almost the same page sizes across that period (long after the ‘pandemic’ is gone).
36000 over how many months being recorded ?
??? Including BEFORE the pandemic — just to ‘pad’ the numbers a bit ??
Maybe they should have a similar list of BUSINESSES CLOSED and BANKRUPTED IN RED to show a more full truth.
I am with the protesters who are not criminals but being treated like it. It is people like you who make it easy for fascists to take over the country!
The George W Bush response.
Not something to be proud of or to emulate.
There is going to be about the same amount of Fatalities from CCV, lockdown or no lockdown. It will eventually kill a million or so Americans, just like the Flu has since 1918.
The purpose of the lockdown is to prevent hospital overload and the fatalities/rationing associated with Hospital overload.
As long as there isn’t hospitals being overloaded, the country should be open. Those worried about dying from the virus need to be the ones sheltering in place, not the young/healthy.
Trump is doing the right thing politically, but the lockdown is not a good strategy for the overall health of the country.
If it comes down to saving the lives of 20 young people or to “save” one 80 year old, the 80 year old is going to die. When the country descends into crime, poverty and marshall law, the decision to let 80 year olds die is going to get easier and easier. Life is full of hard choices. We haven’t had to make any in a very long time. Tiny Singapore had 1,400 new cases today. I’m afraid Hard choices are coming.
I’m about 50-50 on there being a vaccine, 2-3 years from now.
Drug companies are seeing $, so the odds are better for this than just about anything in recent memory.
“How is the Boston Globe considered an essential business?”
Provides kennel lining for the Animal Rescue League of Boston, as well as toilet paper for the homeless.
“If you were on your way to the grocery store and a herd of elephants crushed your car and your license plate had either/or a C and/or a V, then you are classified as a CV-19 death”
Or you once served on the USS Hancock (CV-19).
Ironically, Admiral McCain used it as his flagship from 17 November 1944 til 25 January 1945.
That is pretty much the reasoning of Sweden’s response.
Get as many exposed as possible to rapidly build herd immunity and not decimate their economy.
UNLIKE what Dr’s fauci and birx have called for, and various tin pot petty little Stalin’s like whitmer took too far to kill our economy as a means to keep President Trump from being reelected.
Do you think the Globe had to run 15 pages of Obits to get Boston to vote Democrat?
Really?
They were not all Covid.
Did you read the story?
So, the men dying in the state run veterans nursing homes are rats.
Nice.
The first hour?
I would love to see some documentation of that. Because that is twice the count generally reported for the entire day.
Nice try.
Thank you for the information and analysis. I’m going to look at the problem from that perspective (positives vs. negatives after testing, more activity in services, etc.) and maybe adjust some personal plans.
I noticed a change associated with the epidemic and business slowdowns. It is anecdotal and involves some criminals in several restaurants in one small city.
The restaurant employees had victimized several young people who unsuspectingly worked with them for short periods of time, spiking soft drinks with drugs, sometimes raping, and otherwise pushing them to do drugs, casual sex, etc. There were addictions, diseases and other problems. Murder was a likelihood. Those employees had also been stealing quite a few things from stores and other places and individuals.
They’re described in quiet conversations between a few medical professionals and law enforcement people who are partially aware of their activities as a bad crowd. They were getting away with some of their worst crimes by way of their own con artistry, a manager covering for them and a couple of related, dirty or negligent members of law enforcement (one close to the manager). It happens.
Since those employees are working far fewer hours or unemployed, they are no longer able to maintain appearances. They have more time to party, less money,...
One of them was seen yesterday in a large store, acting very much like an tweaker in an advanced stage of addiction and brain damage (wobbling, indecisive, repeating random movements). He was the worst of the gang. Now, he is no longer able to persuade or intimidate young people into getting themselves addicted or diseased, and he’s on his way out.
Several other psychopaths from those restaurants have also been dirty, confused and introverted when seen in public. They’re not effective enough in their criminal behavior to be involved in human trafficking or worse crimes any more.
Yes, there are hardships for many who are only trying to support themselves and not harming others. But it appears that the situation is also helping us to take out some antisocial trash.
One of those criminals in the restaurants, by the way, was confirmed to have recently been incarcerated for a long time for a very serious crime and out on parole. They all had histories, though. The only reason they were alive and on the loose was their youth, lack of time for being caught and put away for good and authorities who should have known better than to avoid further investigating them.
Where I wrote “an tweaker,” it should have been written as a tweaker.
