It’s a complex issue. I do not think masks should be mandated. Not only are they not proven to help, they may cause problems and are often worn incorrectly. People should have the right to chose what to believe and to act accordingly.

That said I make my husband wear one when he goes to the bank/post office because I want to keep him safe...People are not always rational.

We need to nip this virus in the bud.

We could have nipped this virus in the bud if people like you, and the leftist media, and the democRats hadn't spent the last two months telling us incessantly that we are all going to die, the ER's will all be overwhelmed, and everyone should hide under their beds like you do.

I disagree with you. This is government coercion. We are a capable nation. Think about what you are giving up and losing as part of daily existence. People like you will continue to see your liberties diminished. Do you care?

Our country looks like South Korea with these pathetic masks. Articles produced today are asking why we can’t be even more like Asia, which is where the virus came from.

People like yourself might be more comfortable on a site called “Slave Republic.” Some of us still care about liberty. Sorry you have chosen this place to side with the tyrants. I will not do so.

You quote dr Russell Blaylock. someone many consider a quack. You quote a Canadian Civil Rights researcher. Listen to your own link by Dr. Fauci. The first thing Fauci says is that Masks are important to prevent spread from someone who is infections. And he is concerned about medical masks being available for health care workers. I want the reopenings to be successful. We need to nip this virus in the bud. And masks will help do this. It's not a permanent thing. And people with medical conditions or kids 2 and under shouldn't wear them.

Oh, of course! Anyone who declares something different than the talking points of The State is a "quack." Danny, if you want to wear a mask and believe that you're doing the planet a favor, then go ahead. And if you believe it's "temporary" and not in reality about controlling the people, then go ahead and believe it. But I don't buy that it's anything more than a symbol of submission to these commies who are destroying and reordering our nation. Keep on drinking it up. I won't. Good night.

Why is it that you ignore all the studies done prior to COVID-19 that were unable to show any improvement in wound infections with & w/o masks on the surgeons during surgery? Anesthesiologists don’t wear them anymore and they are right at the patient’s head.
Fauci is not an expert on masks, he is not an expert on models and he talks out of both sides of his mouth. The single person I am least likely to trust is Fauci. The mask recommendations are voodoo, a leap of faith that studies have not supported.

Masks act as a symbol for society – you are protected. The evidence says you may not be.

Seventeenth-century depictions of “plague physicians” show them wearing a long beak-like mask, tied with rope and carrying a disinfectant flame in the beak.

The flame was supposed to prevent plague miasmata from entering the physician’s body, but carry a mask he did.

The question which is now being hotly debated is whether in the current pandemic we should all be wearing wear masks or not and if so in what circumstances.

Thirteen years ago one of us co-authored what was (to our knowledge) the first systematic review of physical interventions to prevent the spread of respiratory viruses. The review was updated in 2009 and again in 2011 and is now accessible free of charge from the Cochrane website.

Our first review had an evidence nucleus of 7 case-control studies carried out in the Far East during the 2003 SARs 1 epidemic. The studies were mostly carried out in an emergency situation with researchers under a lot of pressure to provide answers for decision-makers.

The evidence they provided showed that multiple interventions such as barriers, distancing and hygiene decreased the risk of infection. However, the bulk of the evidence came from healthcare workers settings, with only one case-control looking at family clusters, within their dwellings. In the following updates, we added a few more observational studies and the number of randomised studies increased, but not by much.

This year we have produced a further update. Because of the expected greater number of studies and the haste of our funders for answers, we decided to split the review update into two parts. We were confident that we would have a number of trials to answer our questions with greater precision than case-control studies. The first part includes evidence of the effects of face masks, eye protection and person distancing as single interventions, not in combination.

Evidence from 14 trials on the use of masks vs. no masks was disappointing: it showed no effect in either healthcare workers or in community settings. We could also find no evidence of a difference between the N95 and other types of masks but the trials comparing the two had not been carried in aerosol-generating procedures...

Bunkum. It suppresses the immune system and can cause hypercapnia.

So oncologists who recommend that cancer patients in chemo wear a mask are giving their patients that reccomenation knowing full well their immune system... is going to be depressed by the wearing of a mask?

They are in the high risk category.

What's the excuse for making healthy people breath their own fumes? Control.

I’m not sure what ‘mandated’ means in your context. I see people out-and-about every day without masks, and nobody is interfering with them.

But commercial establishments, like grocery stores and pharmacies, are demanding the wearing of them. I appreciate that - I certainly don’t want anyone sneezing over the cucumbers and tomatoes that I’m about to purchase. I suspect that places like grocery stores may continue to require them, even when government guidelines are loosened.

The mask can’t protect from every possible germ - after all, people often don’t use them correctly, and have germ-y hands, too - but it will inhibit a lot of germs; and perhaps will inhibit the ONE that manages to infect me or someone else vulnerable.

There are people here who simply seem to hate Government, in any form; and the mask-wearing issue seems to have become an ultimate symbol for them.

Down, projected outward.

If the rule is six feet and you have a thick cloth mask on,
you’re essentially 24-30 feet away from someone.

Don’t kid yourself that the masks they have people wearing
are air tight.

You’re still spilling out.

Neurocirugía1202008; 19:Recibido:121Neurocirugía2008 19:Summary Objectives.
This study was undertaken to evaluate whether the surgeons’ oxygen saturation of hemoglobin was affected by the surgical mask or not during major operations.
Methods. Repeated measures, longitudinal and pros-pective observational study was performed on 53 surgeons using a pulse oximeter pre and postoperatively.
Results. Our study revealed a decrease in the oxygen saturation of arterial pulsations (SpO2) and a slight increase in pulse rates compared to preoperative values in all surgeon groups. The decrease was more promi-nent in the surgeons aged over 35.
Conclusions. Considering our findings, pulse rates of the surgeon’s increase and SpO2 decrease after the first hour. This early change in SpO2 may be either due to the facial mask or the operational stress. Since a very small decrease in saturation at this level, reflects a large decrease in PaO2, our findings may have a clinical value for the health workers and the surgeons.

Headaches and the N95 face-mask amongst healthcare providers.Lim EC1, Seet RC, Lee KH, Wilder-Smith EP,Chuah BY,Ong BK
CONCLUSIONS:Healthcare providers may develop headaches following the use of the N95 face-mask. Shorter duration of face-mask wear may reduce the frequency and severity of these headaches.

Well back in the very early days it would have been animal pelts.

Bull.

People have been walking around spreading this thing without knowing that they even have it. This is why the Surgeon General made a point of telling us that we wear the mask to protect Others, not ourselves.
