Art of the Deal!
Exactly. Can’t fault them for it, if that’s all it was.
Yeah, he finally came to his senses.
I have this fantasy of the Japanese sending the Chinese navy to the bottom of the South China Sea.
I just ordered a new Osprey book about the 1894-95 Sino-Japanese war. The seagoing samurai really worked over the Chinese fleet.
Japan’s current self-defense navy is larger and more capable than people realize.
Teh Philippines will be taken over by Muslims before China becomes a real threat.
China, may be the most hated nation in the Pacific now. Very few real Allies or bases.
Very
Yes
“Smart for us?”
Absolutely.
The old Clark AFB is but 650 miles from Hong Kong and allows the USAF to patrol the entire South China Sea, providing cover for the US Navy operating out of Subic Bay.
A major strategic win.
China sank a Vietnamese fishing boat with about two dozen Filippini crew some two months ago.
My sis in law is Filipina. I thought this would happen: we have Spec Ops bases in Mindanao and the southern region so the US has a significant military presence in.
I highly doubt it was because Dutertard decided. Uncle Sam obviously flexed it’s muscles politically & economically.
That’s the case with my wife. She’s from northern Mindanao, so her first language is Cebuano, but she is also fluent with English and Tagalog, and knows a little Spanish and another Philippine language (Ilongco?).
My wife speaks Tagalog, English and Bisaya. 😁
In the last few wars Japan had, the Western powers forced Japan to give up territory they won in battle against China and Russia. Japan remembers this. Maybe the next time Japan beats China, the Westerners will let Japan keep their winnings.
My ex Pinay was also northern Mindanao. The village of Victory, north of Cabadbaran, which is north of Butuan. She was fluent in English and Tag. She and her little sister now live in Texas so are probably also now fluent in Texan drawl.
Looks like they finally got a clue.
This is the usual Duterte move.
His mouth takes him where he can’t actually go. And then, weeks or months later, he reverses his policy.
In this case it was a reaction to a US sanction against one of his department secretaries. All patriotic and independent and that’ll show ‘em. And now we are back to business as usual.
Same thing happened two weeks ago in his feud with Manila water companies, who he was blaming in Dec-Jan for Manila water shortages. They are all friends again.
And the mining ban in 2016, etc.
And so on over and over for the last four years. If you think he has gone overboard on something, wait three weeks or three months.
Mine too
HaHa, looks like Trump called their bluff.
