HaHa, looks like Trump called their bluff.

He might also have advisers, yelling in his ear, to wake up and smell the coffee.

I’ll be the odd man out on this, but...

I don’t believe the Philippine Islands (PI) have any more strategic value to the US, especially re: China.

Back when Japan invaded the PI, they were able to use land based aircraft from fields in Hainan to attack a good portion of Luzon Island of the PI.

WW2 was a long time ago in terms of aircraft ranges. And PI is also within saturation conventional missile bombardment range from China.

And the south islands in the PI, particularly Mindanao, belong to communist/jihadiscum guerrillas.

I am in Mindanao as we speak. I can assure you, that is not true. Out west, the muzzies rule, but not in Eastern Mindanao. The people here, won’t tolerate it. 👍

Good to know. Thanks.

My perspective is somewhat mired in the 80s when the NPA owned quite a bit of the southern islands there.

The NPA is still around, but we rarely ever hear about them anymore. I didn’t think there are a lot of them anymore.
