Forget this hapless mayor. She has already de facto resigned by violating her oath and failing to uphold the law. However the situation is now entered the actual stage of lawless insurrection. Apparently these insurrectionists are armed, have seized public buildings and are violating the rights and liberties of American citizens in an American city. It is doubtful that the Democratic Governor of Washington will act. Much of the media will be sympathetic. Will these insurrectionists be allowed to actually seize power through force? Harpers Ferry and the NYC draft riots of 1863 come to mind as historical precedents. Ultimately it will be tricky for Trump. But this could be the defining moment of his Presidency.

The fact that she’s abandoning the city. Who needs a mayor. I know nothing about Seattle’s police, but they couldn’t do any worse with no mayor setting policy. Maybe there’s a worse mayor, but when large swaths of a major city are rebelling, it’s getting beyond the mayor’s job anyway. I assume WA still has a Governor, with State Troopers and National Guard. And if he does nothing, a big part of me thinks it’s a state/local problem to solve.
So far, Trump is staying out of this and leaving it to the mayors and governors. Smart move. But if the obamabots attack federal buildings or personnel, they the game changes.
