IMHO, since the guy turned to face the cops and pointed something at them, I find their response understandable, but yes, they should have been aware that a taser is not a lethal weapon...

From all that I now know I’d say that’s pretty much it in a nutshell.
If I taser you, I can take your firearm. The Taser is the equivalent of a firearm in these scenarios. Plus, it looks like a firearm and you can’t be sure he didn’t have a firearm on him.

What happens if the taser hit the officer? Does the guy keep running or take the officers gun and start shooting? I don’t know?
