Poland is in the same boat, I hope they can withstand the pressure that’s coming their way, I am a little fearful in that I see the young people there caving in. There is a lot more acceptance of gays in Poland than even a few years ago.

Yep. But I’ve read that the EU can punish a member state only if no other member state objects. If that’s true, the EU is dead in the water. The Hungarians will protect the Poles, and the Poles will protect the Hungarians.
There’s an old Hungarian saying. “Hungarians and Poles drink from the same cup.” It’s kinda amazing that this saying holds true even today.

The pinnacle of irony would be if the Hungarians get compared to the Nazi’s or communists by a bunch of EU socialists because they resent a Hungarian (Soros) who collaborated with the Nazi’s.

They share Eastern Orthodoxy and the Catholics among them have more in common with them than the secular Western Europeans. They share a threat picture may it be the Muslims or Russians, whereas the Western Europeans were always insulated from the Muslim terror (the Eastern Europeans were doing the fighting) and see no threat even today (albeit that has changed a lot in the last years because of the waves of terror that Europe has had thanks to their liberal immigration policies for Muslims). They share a much greater threat picture of the Russians, whereas the Germans and French, again with them sandwiched between, see no threat there either.
As it stands, the Germans and French basically call all the shots. The Eastern Europeans don’t have a voice.

The other Eastern Europeans will block the EU from doing anything....just as they will try with Poland and be once again blocked by the same countries. So long as they have a solid block, they can prevent the French/Germans from pushing them around.
