Things like this is why his poll numbers are mired in the low to mid 40s. He won in ‘16 by the narrowest of margins but he won because just enough people had confidence in him and his decision making capabilities. Promoting wacky dead intern theories is not going to help him with that tiny margin of people who put him over the top in PA, OH, MI and WI.
