The best of that sad lot is Val Demings. She appears to be fairly intelligent and well-spoken and knows something about law and order. Its clear in some of the hearings that she’s toed the Dem Party line (e.g., most recently with Barr), but she’s a less foaming at the mouth racist that the rest of the black female contenders. I don’t even know if she’s really a socialist at heart—something to think about when Joe is a walking dementia man.

I don't believe his team is making the decision either. It's been my opinion that the DNC overlords are making the decision. Biden's people didn't get Amy and Petey boy to step aside just before Super Tuesday. And they didn't tell Warren to stay in in order to siphon votes away from Bernie. No, this is all the work of the DNC, and they're the ones telling Biden and his team who the VP will be. Names get thrown out just to see what kind of damaging info comes to the surface. The DNC is looking for someone they can own and with as little baggage as possible.
Dementia comes and goes. Biden cannot announce the name that he is being told is his choice until he’s having a good enough day to read the name aloud and then say something coherent and positive.
I don’t think he actually said it would be a woman of color but the media is running with that anyways because they are fake news. Now they’ve made it certain that if it’s not it’ll look badly on someone.

Bernie could be his running mate - all he’d have to do is identify as a black female. What’s the problem? They perfected that scam!
He could pick Candice Owens and then take what is left of his marbles and go home.
The maneuvering is not only related to the VP pick. They are trying to find a route to have the flexibility to replace Biden should it become necessary. They have to do that without picking Bernie Sanders but somehow manage not to piss off Sanders voters.
So they can’t have Biden withdraw before the convention because then they lose control over who replaces him as his delegates are free to cast their votes for whom they will — and there are a lot of Sanders delegates who will be very pissed off if they are railroaded at the convention. Bernie got a lot of votes in the primaries and deserves the nod if Biden steps down.
If Biden goes thru the convention, they have to pick someone who satisfies several possibilities should Biden have to withdraw after the nomination, including.
Since the VP pick “has” to be a black woman if Biden withdraws for health reasons before the election, how do they replace him without picking the black VP Candidate? Not replacing him with the VP pick means rejecting a black woman for the top spot and choosing, likely, a white guy.
If they decide to go with a black candidate at the top, should Biden withdraw, they don’t have a viable black top-of-the-ticket candidates except Michelle Obama or Oprah. But neither has shown interest. And, if they replace Biden with a black candidate, an all black ticket is a no-go.
Finally, Biden may refuse to step down. In that case, they need a viable and very credible VP candidate, probably one who is black and female.
